He looked up, sighed, and then went back to staring at his screen. The shithead had his dad’s attitude.

“Not even going to say hi to your uncle?” I asked.

He never once looked up. “Can I truly call you my uncle if I only see you once or twice a year?”

I frowned. The kid was right. I was surprised to see him there. Finnick was a teen when he got Finley’s mom pregnant. With a baby on the way, Finnick hopped right into the business. Sadly, his relationship with Finley’s mom didn’t last beyond that first year. Since Finley lived with his mom and she refused to let him visit, the family barely saw him. Finnick’s work required frequent travel. That killed Grandma and my mom, of course, but there wasn’t much we could do about the situation.

“You do remember I have a restaurant now? I don’t travel anymore, which means you could come and stay with me any time you wanted. Grandma Sue would like that.” He lifted his head at the mention of Grandma. “At the very least, come see her at the restaurant.”

“Do you have burgers?” he asked quietly.

“I can make whatever you want,” I said. “There’s someone I want you to meet, too. This is between me and you.” When I nudged his shoulder, he arched his brow, his mouth curving upward to one side likeIwas a kid. “She’s going to be your aunt one day. You’ll know her when you see her. She’s got red hair.”

I mentioned Eugene’s hair because I figured it would make me seem cooler to the ten-year-old that my woman had bright-colored hair.

“Grandma Sue doesn’t care that she has red hair?” Finley asked.

“Why would she care?”

He looked down quickly. “I don’t know.”

“What are you two talking about?” Finnick interrupted.

He stepped in front of Finley, who stood and walked away instead of answering his father. Finnick, looking exhausted, rubbed his beard and frowned. He might be wearing a suit and even share some of my features, but he always looked untidy. His blond hair was tousled, and his beard needed a good trim. Since he worked out in the sun, he was darker than me, too.

“Mom and Grandma will be happy Finley’s here,” I said as Finnick plopped down beside me.

“The kid hates me.”

“He barely knows you.”

“He and his mom want for nothing because of me,” Finnick said, rubbing his temple.

That was true, but Finnick’s absence in the boy’s life had done its damage.

“Dad’s retiring.” When my eyes widened, Finnick grinned and said, “Mom’s going to cry tonight when he tells everyone.”

I smiled. “She doesn’t know.”

He shook his head. “He’s finally stepping aside, Hudson. Are you sure you don’t want to return?”

I patted his back. “You’re going to be fine, but… there’s something I discovered recently. I like taking time for myself. I’d been working every day since the restaurant opened until a couple of months ago.”

“Why are you telling me this?”

“Because it’s fucking nice to relax. Everything’s still going to be there after I take a day or two to rest.”

He grimaced. “If only it were that simple.”

“It is.”

The very next second, he whistled. “Who’s helping Grandma?”

Finnick stared toward the entrance. I spotted Eugene holding the door open for Grandma as she waddled through. Mom was walking a few steps behind them, but my gaze rushed back to my woman.

No wonder my brother whistled. The black dress she wore molded to her body, revealing every curve, and her cleavage was practically spilling out the top. She was absolutely stunning and had to be cold since she wore no jacket. I could fucking eat her in front of everyone in the building. Well, I wouldn’t behave that way in front of my mom or my grandma, but everyone else was fair game. I needed her by my side, so everyone knew she belonged with me.

I smacked Finnick’s back as I stood. “Show some respect to your future sister-in-law.”
