He quirked a brow, laughing. “Well, I’ll be damned. I better go introduce myself.”

“Keep what I said a secret,” I told him.

“Why?”

“Why else?” I glared at my younger brother like he was a moron. “Because she doesn’t know she’s my future wife yet. I’ve got to convince her first.”

He kept laughing as we walked over. When Eugene finally noticed me approaching, our gazes locked. As soon as I was within reaching distance, I grabbed her waist and pulled her close. After kissing the top of her head, I gestured to my brother. “This is my brother, Finnick. Finnick, this is Eugene, my better half.”

“Hello,” Eugene said, taking his outstretched hand and shaking it.

Finnick let his eyes rove over her before he said, “You are indeed his better half.”

“It’s about time ya two stopped pretending.” Grandma Sue piped in as she stopped beside Eugene. “How long were ya two going to wait before ya told me you’re together?”

As if Grandma didn’t know from Eugene and my interactions at work.

“Wasn’t it obvious?” I held Eugene tighter as if to saysee.

“Okay, okay. I’ll take him off your hands,” Eugene said, tucking her arm beneath mine and hugging it as she leaned into me. “Does that make you happy?”

Grandma sniffed. “I expect grandbabies by next year.”

Eugene didn’t even flinch when she replied, “Maybe I don’t want kids. Maybe I want to hog him all to myself.” She looked up at me, and she was so fucking beautiful that I had to lean down and kiss her nose.

Grandma muttered, “Do ya hear this, Kelly?”

Ignoring Grandma, I continued to stare down at Eugene. “Eugene’s the boss, Grandma. What she wants, she gets. If all she wants is me…” I looked at Grandma. “I won’t deny her.”

“So, you’re saying if she wants babies, you’ll want them?” Grandma eyed Eugene.

Grandma was no doubt planning how to convince Eugene we needed babies as she smiled.

Yes, I would be happy with kids one day. The idea of children had once seemed repulsive, but with Eugene, I knew I could love our child. I’d find pleasure in life with her, regardless of what we chose.

Eugene laughed. “I’m not sharing him, Grandma. Not for a long time.”

The word Grandma coming out of Eugene’s mouth had a good effect on the old woman because she stood straighter, nodding, until she saw Finnick. “And you! If I don’t get to see Finley soon—”

“He’s here,” Finnick blurted out.

“Well, why didn’t anybody tell me?” Grandma swiped her hands out at her sides as she stepped forward. “Move.”

“Don’t you love me anymore?” Finnick followed behind her.

“No.”

“You handle Grandma well,” Mom said to Eugene.

Eugene pointed at me. “She’s been offering this one up to me like he’s a meal ever since we met, so I’m used to it. She kind of reminds me of my gran.” Eugene sucked in a breath instead of continuing.

Mom must have understood that Eugene’s grandmother had passed because she patted her shoulder. Mom spotted how tightly Eugene hugged my arm and grinned. “Well, I’ll leave you two to mingle. I’m going to go find your father, Hudson.”

As soon as Mom disappeared, I said, “You wore that black dress for me.”

“Why do you say that?”

“Because I said get black or red. You got black.”
