“Greyson?” I managed, my voice weak. “Sebastian? Carter?”

“Will be fine,” Jack assured me, though I couldn’t see his face. “Focus on breathing, Kennedy. Just breathe.”

The drugs still lingered in my system, making the world tilt and blur, but when I was in Jack’s arms, I couldn’t be lost, no matter how deep the fog.

Iwas laying in the bed, all of us waiting for the doctor to get here. They hadn’t let me walk since they’d brought me back from that building. And they were insisting that the doctor come to the guy’s penthouse because they didn’t want anything to do with a hospital.

Greyson’s phone buzzed and he glanced down at it. “She’s here,” he muttered, stalking through the bedroom door with his gun drawn. Because that was a great way to start a doctor-patient relationship.

By gunpoint.

“Have her look at your arm first!” I called after him.

“Not a chance of that, baby. I’m fine,” he responded back.

The elevator dinged, and I listened to the murmur of voices, a soft one, and then the harsh tone of Greyson's that he'd had since they'd gotten me back.

“You guys should probably have changed,” I mused, staring at the blood and dust that still covered them.

Sebastian glanced down at his clothes like he was just seeing himself for the first time.

“Naw, princess. I feel like this look is great for the vibe we’re going with for this appointment,” he drawled with a shrug.

I wrinkled my nose at him, but he was right, their appearance did go with Greyson’s whole, let’s point a gun at everyone attitude.

A few minutes later a dark haired woman in a pristine white coat came into the bedroom, accompanied by a terrified looking younger woman dressed in scrubs. The doctor looked nonplussed at the scene in the room—bloody clothes and all—but her assistant, or what I assumed was her assistant, looked like she was about to crap her pants.

She’d probably been the first person at the door when Greyson had opened it with a gun in hand.

The doctor had an air of quiet confidence, her steady gaze and gentle demeanor putting me slightly at ease as she walked in like people pointed guns at her all the time.

Knowing Greyson, I guess I couldn’t rule that out.

Their appearance sent off a ripple of tension through the air though, as Jack, Carter, and Sebastian huddled close to me, all of them touching me in one way or another—Jack physically shielding me with his body.

I wondered how long it would take for us not to look over our shoulder and feel like someone was after us.

Hopefully, it wouldn’t be like that when the baby came.

I softly rubbed at my stomach.

If there was still a baby in there.

Or if there had even been one in there in the first place.

It felt like this doctor held my whole future in her hands.

“Kennedy, I presume?”

I pushed Jack out of the way and struggled to sit up.

“No! Lay back!” All four of them were immediately jumping all over me, and I frowned as I settled back into the pillows.

The doctor glanced at the four guys, before lifting her eyebrow in amusement.

“Please move away from the patient,” she said with a sigh as she approached the bed, where I was laying.
