Thanks a lot, Agnes.

I make a mental note to reprimand her for her loose lips.

In fact, I have half a mind to take her out of the program and fire her as a client.

“I see,” Riley muses. “But if I become a client, then I’ll be able to know for sure. Is that how this works?”

I don’t give her a response.

“I’d be very interested in hiring you to fix my love life. As you know, being a professional athlete doesn’t leave much time for dating,” she jokes.

“A woman of your caliber doesn’t look like she’s desperate for dates,” I retort flatly.

“You would think that, wouldn’t you?” She giggles, completely unbothered by my tone. “But most men find me… intimidating. My schedule. My profile. Everything about me scares them off.”

“But you don’t think it will scare off a man like, say… Nate, for example?”

“I surely hope not.” She laughs. “In fact, I think we might have a lot in common. Especially when it comes to our demanding jobs and scrutinizing media coverage.”

I force a smile, but it physically hurts my cheeks to do so.

“Usually, that’s not how we do things here in Love Moore. Just because you have a few things in common doesn’t mean you’ll be a perfect match,” I explain a bit too defensively. “I take my job very seriously, Miss Griffin, and cannot, in goodconscience, set you up with another client of mine just because you want me to. There are a lot of rules that you will have to follow, as well as taking personality tests. Even at the end of the whole process, Nathan might not even make it to your list of eligible candidates.”

If I thought my explanation would discourage her, it had the complete opposite effect on her. It left a challenging gleam in her eyes that I don’t like. Not one bit.

“So what you are saying is that I’m going to have to jump through some hoops before you set us up with a date? That’s fine. I’m willing to do whatever it takes.”

She sounds so sure of herself. Like a woman on a mission going after what she wants.

I’d admire her gumption—if she wasn’t after Nate, that is.

“How about we go through all the things you can expect from Love Moore, and afterward, if you’re still interested, I can send you a link to fill out the compatibility and personality forms online.”

“Like I said, I’m all good with whatever you throw at me. Just as long as the prize is Nathan Wilder.”

I really don’t like this woman.

“We’ll see.” I fake a smile. “In all honesty, I’m not really sure if we can fit you into our already busy roster, though. I might have to add you to the waiting list.”

“Oh.” She frowns. “Well, that’s disappointing. But I am happy that Love Moore is doing so well. And by Agnes’ accounts, I can see that all the praise is merited.”

Great.

She’s nice.

“Well, send me whatever I need to fill out, and whenever you do have a slot open, I hope you consider me.”

I stand up from my seat and walk over towards her, rushing to end this impromptu meeting.

“I’ll make sure that Becca sends you the required forms. Hopefully, this will work out, but if it doesn’t, it was a pleasure meeting you, Riley.”

“Likewise.” She smiles. “Also, love what you got going here.” She points to my clothes. “You are freaking hot. If Nate isn’t on the table, then maybe I could call you for a date sometime,” she flirts.

“I’m flattered, but I have a boyfriend.”

“Of course, you do.” She giggles. “The good ones are always taken, are they not?”

With another cheeky smile, Riley starts to strut out of my office when something stronger than me calls out her name and stops her.
