Because, like her, they’ll never give up on me.

“Let’s do this,” I turn to Jack and say, joining in with my stick to mimic them.

“Well, you heard the man!” Caleb shouts cheerfully. “Let’s do this!”

Loud cheers erupt from my brother-in-arms as we walk out of the locker room and head towards the tunnel leading to the rink. The fans might not be too happy with me, but as long as my teammates have my back, that’s all I need to see this game through.

But just as my skates slide into the ice, the most outstanding thing happens.

Every Guardians fan in the arena stands up from their seat, applauding and chanting out my name.

“Wilder!”

“Wilder!”

“Wilder!”

I stand there, dazed, in the middle of the rink, watching everyone scream out my name, cheering me on.

Jack skates beside me and leans into my side to whisper in my ear, “What did I tell you? Sometimes, people can surprise you and show up for you when you least expect it.”

My jaw is left agape as I stare incredulously at the scenery surrounding me.

And that’s when I see my girl on her feet, shouting at the top of her lungs, her cheers lost amongst the thousands of fans chanting my name.

But as I stand there with my eyes watering and my heart full, her voice is the only one I hear.

Because of her, I’m finally home.

Epilogue

Charlotte

“Oh, my gosh! Are those for me?” I ask in astonishment when Becca lets five delivery boys walk into my office with various bouquets in their hands. They place a myriad of flowers all over my office, and one of them hands me an envelope before they leave.

“Who are these from?” Becca asks excitedly beside me.

“Who do you think?” I laugh as I open the envelope, confirming who has made this incredibly romantic gesture. But as I read his note, tears sting the corner of my eyes since his words mean more to me than any of these bouquets.

I once read a William Shakespeare quote that stuck with me.

‘If I were to kiss you then go to hell, I would.

So then I can brag with the devils I saw heaven without ever entering it.’

I never understood what he meant by that until I met you.

Loving you is the closest to heaven that I’ll ever get.

I may never be a great wordsmith or even say the right things,

but I know that much.

I love you.

With all my heart.

Happy one-week Anniversary, sweetheart.
