Nate

P.S.

I have another surprise for you.

I’ll pick you up at 5 pm.

“Are those happy tears or sad ones?” Becca asks, handing me a tissue.

“They’re happy tears. Very happy,” I sniffle as I dry my eyes. “Looks like Nate has plans for tonight. I wonder what they could be.”

“Well, I’m sure whatever he has in mind will be wonderful,” Becca swoons.

“I don’t doubt it.” I laugh excitedly.

“Since you’re leaving work early, do you mind if I leave too? I have… this thing… that I need to attend to this afternoon. Is that okay?”

“Of course it is. In fact, take the afternoon off,” I tell her.

“Really?” Becca claps with glee. “Thanks, boss! Love sure looks good on you.”

Yes, it does.

Because being in love with Nate is by far the best thing that has ever happened to me. Even with everything we’ve gone through and all the turmoil that got in our way, I wouldn’t trade a single moment of it because it got us to where we are today—together and madly in love.

Of course, time cruelly lags until five o’clock, each second ticking ever so slowly until I finally meet him downstairs. Leaning against his car, looking gallantly handsome, Nate pulls himself off the passenger door, and in three long strides, he’s on me, making sure to kiss me before I’ve even uttered a word.

“Hi,” I coo after our kiss, melting in his embrace.

“Happy anniversary, sweetheart,” he retorts with love in his eyes. “Did you have a nice day?”

“I did. Though I’m more excited about what you have in store for us tonight.”

“Patience, baby. You’ll see soon enough.” He winks, placing his hand on my lower back and leading me to the car.

He opens the passenger door for me but halts me before I have time to get in.

“What’s wrong?” I ask.

“Do you trust me?” he counters instead.

“With my life,” I respond assuredly, his gaze hooding at my quick reply.

“Then would you mind wearing this?” he asks, pulling a blindfold from his coat pocket.

“If I was curious before, now I’m intrigued. Just what are you up to?”

“You’ll see soon enough.” He smiles and then carefully places the blindfold over my eyes. “Hmm. I think I’ll definitely keep this and take it home with us for… later.”

“Or we can skip whatever you have planned and go home now?” I smirk.

“Tempting. Very tempting,” he muses as if considering his options. “But unfortunately, what I have planned can’t wait.”

“Mysterious.” I giggle as Nate helps me into the car.

A few minutes later, I feel us take off to whatever undisclosed destination Nate has in mind. After a while, my curiosity gets the better of me, so I pull up the blindfold, trying to see where we are going. I feel Nate’s hand squeeze my thigh and tsk, indicating that I wasn’t discreet enough.

“No peeking, sweetheart. Those are the rules.”
