She blinks at me like I’m suddenly talking in a foreign language, which makes me take a deep breath and explain my whole thought process to her.

“I mean, my penthouse must have cobwebs by now since we spend all our time at your place. It would be nice for us to start thinking about our future and what it could look like. I could sell the penthouse and move everything into your place if that’s what you want. But I thought I’d just put it out there so you know where my head is at.”

When a slow smile starts forming on her lips, my anxiety subsides somewhat.

“What are you thinking?” I ask when she takes too long to answer.

“I’m thinking of how to rearrange my schedule for next week so we could meet a real estate agent,” she says, her wide smile fully formed now.

“Fuck, I love you!” I groan, cupping her cheeks into my hand and giving her a passionate kiss.

“Ahem,” we hear someone clear their throat beside us. “Keep it PG, you guys. My little nieces are here,” Caleb interrupts with a sly smile. “You know, I feel like I had a hand in joining you two lovebirds together. So maybe… I should be rewarded for my trouble.”

“Is that so?” I grin, keeping my gaze locked on Piper’s.

“Oh, definitely! If you think about it, I helped you by getting Piper away from Preston at Roy’s that night, and then I helped you, Piper, when you needed to ditch your birthday party to see your man. It looks like I played Cupid in y’all’s love story. Don’t tell me that I don’t deserve something for my help?”

“He does have a point,” I coo to my woman.

“Caleb never has a point. If you don’t indulge him, he’ll go away.” She giggles.

“Hey!” Caleb sulks. “Come on, now? After all I’ve done, you’re gonna do me like that? And I thought you and I were tight,” he mopes at Piper.

“I do love the idiot.” Piper shrugs. “He’s a pain in my ass, but he did help us out when we needed it most.”

“True,” I taunt, looking at him from top to bottom. “He did step up for us when it mattered. Maybe he should be rewarded.”

“Now that’s what I’m talking about?!” Caleb claps in excitement. “So, I was thinking maybe in our next game, I could drive the Zamboni while only wearing boxers with the Guardians’ logo to give the ladies something to talk about. Maybe even write my phone number on my back so the braver bunnies could give me a call, you know what I mean?” He wiggles his eyebrows suggestively.

Piper rolls her eyes at the horndog while I reach inside my front pocket.

“Oh, I think I can do better than that,” I retort, flinging him my car keys.

“Wait? You’re giving him your car?” Piper asks in astonishment. “But you love that car.”

“No, Iloveyou. Not my car.” I shake my head at her before turning my attention back to the man who is still staring at the car keys in his hand. “Enjoy, Caleb. She’s all yours.”

“Wait, you’re being serious right now? You’re giving me your Aston Martin? James Bond’s car?”

“I am. Now, is that enough to pay my debts with you?” I arch a brow.

“Are you fucking kidding?! It’s more than enough,” he says, pulling Piper away from me to give me a hug.

Piper takes a step back and giggles into her hand as she watches my horrified face as Caleb hugs me like we’re suddenly best friends.

“Dude, you just made my fucking day!” He jumps in excitement as I push him off me. “So what’s her name?”

“Excuse me?” I ask, disoriented while fixing my tux.

“The car? What’s the girl’s name?”

“She doesn’t have one,” I reply, confused.

“Fuck! So I’m getting that beauty and naming her? Dude!” Caleb’s eyes widen further. “Now I owe you one! I’ll call her Moneypenny. Get it? M’s secretary from James Bond?”

“Okay,” I retort in bewilderment, having never met someone who goes that crazy over a simple car. “Are we good now?”

“We’re more than good. We’re fucking family now,” he says, punching his chest. “Great doing business with you.” Caleb winks as he starts to walk away before I change my mind. “Oh, shit,” he says, halting his step. “I forgot to tell you, Piper. Guess who has another bun in the oven?”
