“Look at the inscription on the back,” she orders softly.

I turn it over, my chest tightening at the words engraved on it.

You pierce my soul.

I am half agony, half hope…

I have loved none but you.

P.

“When you came into my life, that’s exactly how I felt—like an old Jane Austin quote. Your love terrified me, but you also gave me something I lost a long time ago—the hope that love could endure and flourish instead of dying and leaving. I’ve never loved anyone before I met you. I didn’t even dare to. And aside from fear, I think there was another reason why I never let myself fall in love. I think my heart always knew it belonged to you, long before we ever met. I guess what I’m trying to say here is that I won’t let my life be led by fear anymore. I’d rather our love take the wheel instead.”

“Piper,” I choke, feeling like my heart is about to burst out of my chest. “Are you saying what I think you’re saying?”

She nods.

“Trent Alexander Nichols, will you do me the honor of being my husband?”

I grab her by the waist and spin her around until she’s lying under me.

“Isn’t that my line? Shouldn’t I be the one proposing to you?”

“You took too long, Nichols.” She grins widely and wraps her arms around my neck. “A girl can only hold out so long.”

“Noted.” I laugh before pressing a passionate kiss on her lips. “So, grandkids, huh?” I ask, breaking our kiss to lick and nibble on the slope of her neck and shoulder. “Does that mean you want to try and have a baby?” I ask, pressing my hard-on against her pussy to drive the point home.

“I’m not going to be making any babies until you put a ring on this finger first,” she retorts before fisting my hair to pull my face back to her. “So, what do you say? Will you marry me or not?”

“Is tomorrow good for you? Because I’ll marry you right here, right now, if you let me,” I say, desperately needing to kiss every inch of her face.

“Not sure Lottie and my mom would approve of us getting hitched without them. Besides, I want to marry you back in Boston. That’s where our home is.”

“No, kitten. My home is right here. In your arms. I fucking love you so much. So fucking much.”

“I love you too,” she repeats, her gaze softening with the love she has for me.

“I’m going to make you so happy. So fucking happy,” I say, uncaring that tears are starting to form at the corner of my eyes.

“You already do. My life would mean nothing without you in it.”

“Fuck, kitten. You’re going to make me cry. Stop that shit,” I murmur, wiping the tears away from my eyes.

“Well, I’ll be damned. I never thought I’d see the day Trent Nichols would finally shed a tear,” she teases, even when her own silent tears stream down her cheeks.

“Must be love, wife. It makes you do the craziest shit.”

“Wife? I kind of like the sound of that.”

“Me too. Now, how about we consummate this thing and make it official?”

“After you, husband.”

“Don’t mind if I do, wife.”

The End.
