“Honestly, I’d rather take your clothes off right now with my teeth and save the presents for round two,” I say between kisses.

“Patience,” she says, pushing me off her and quickly sneaking off the bed.

“Patience was never my strong suit,” I grumble, wrapping my hands behind my head.

“Liar. You were extremely patient when you set out to win my heart.” She bats her eyelashes at me, knowing I can’t deny her when she’s all docile and sweet like that.

I’ve seen Piper in all her glorious facets.

I’ve seen her become the epitome of professionalism and sophistication.

I’ve seen her anger reach such intense levels that I instinctively had to duck to avoid being struck in the head by whatever object she happened to throw.

I’ve seen her vulnerable and broken and kissed every stray tear away with my lips.

And I’ve seen every side of Piper and have loved each and every one of them.

And now my girl is excited about something. Truly excited.

I’d be an idiot not to enjoy it.

“Very well. I’ll wait, but if this doesn’t end with you riding my cock, cowgirl style, then I’ll be truly disappointed.”

“Noted.” She laughs, going to her bedside table and pulling a velvet box out of the drawer.

“What’s this?” I ask as she crawls back onto the bed and straddles me.

“This is an anniversary present,” she states matter-of-factly.

“Anniversary?” I mimic, bewildered.

“Hmm.” She nods. “It’s been three years to the day that first night I took you home with me.”

“The Hozier concert,” I whisper.

“You remembered.” She smiles widely.

“There’s not a moment in our life together that I could ever forget, Piper. But by that logic, I do believe you’re wrong. Our anniversary was a week ago. Remember? That night, you wanted to take that bartender home…you know the one I swept in and made you come all over my hand and fingers? Ring any bells?”

“I refuse to tell our grandchildren that story. No. The Hozier concert is far more romantic,” she rebukes like I should have known better.

I would have come up with a witty comeback that nothing we did that night was remotely romantic since we fucked like two ravenous bunnies. However, I’m too stunned to say anything since I’m still stuck at hearing the word ‘grandchildren’ slip out of Piper’s mouth.

She wasn’t lying when she said I’ve always been patient with her. I learned the hard way that asking for something too fast, too soon, would not do me any favors when it came to Piper. She has to come to her own decisions at her own pace. I never push her outside her comfort zone unless she is good and ready.

Hence why, the subject of marriage and kids has long been tabled until she feels it’s the right thing for her to do.

I’m completely content living in sin with her for the rest of my days. Just the two of us. Asking for more feels greedy on my part since life is perfect, just as it is.

But I would be lying if I didn’t have a little hope that one day she’d wear a ring on her finger.

“Well, aren’t you going to open it?” she points at the velvet box that she placed in my hand without me even realizing it.

I swallow the lump in my throat and nod, my fingers trembling as I flip the box open.

Inside is a gorgeous, custom-made, gold Rolex with encrusted diamonds in the shape of magnolias, reminiscent of the bracelet my love still wears around her wrist.

“This is… it’s stunning,” I choke out.
