How her teeth sank into her bottom lip, uncaring if she pierced her flesh, just so no one could hear her come.

And then, if that wasn’t enough, I went one step further and licked her essence off my fingers, tipping me so close to the edge that I thought I’d fuck her right there and then.

But I didn’t.

I held steadfast and did the right thing of pushing her away before I opened my mouth and ordered her to come home with me.

We have too many common interests to muddle the waters with sex. Our rivalry with one another is enough of a hindrance.

Add sex to the equation, and who knows if we could come out of it unscathed.

At least, that’s what I keep telling myself.

That I did the honorable thing of keeping her at arm’s length.

But I do wonder… would she even have accepted such an offer?

Of just one night of us tapping into our animosity toward each other and fucking our brains out.

I guess the moment to know the answer to that question has passed.

“Enough,” I grumble, having spent enough of my morning thinking about debasing Piper Lee, of all people.

I crack my neck and decide to focus my attention on the day’s work ahead.

But then I remember about the lunch date that I have yet to cancel with the ProStar sports agent. It would be bad form to keep my lunch date with him when I’m not one bit interested in his client.

“Brigitte!” I call my secretary when I can’t find Ethan Flynn’s business card with his phone number on my desk. “Brigitte!” I shout again, but when she doesn’t rush into my office like I expect her to, I get up from my seat behind my desk and go and see what the hold-up is.

Unfortunately for me, the hold-up is Piper Lee.

My secretary is laughing away at something she said. The relaxed and endearing expression on Piper’s face is a complete contrast of the pissed-off one she had left my office with.

“You have to be kidding me? She ditched you when you got Hozier tickets for her for tomorrow’s concert?” Brigitte tsks. “I don’t care if she is your best friend. You need to ditch that girl ASAP.”

“Hey, that girl is like a sister to me. No bad mouthing Lottie in my presence,” Piper replies with a giggle, but even from this hidden angle, I can see she damn well means it.

“Okay. But the first rule of the girl code is to never ditch a bestie for some guy,” Brigitte piles on, unaware she’s hit a nerve.

“Like I said. She’s family. And you forgive family no matter what.”

“I’ll take them off your hands if you’re no longer going,” my secretary quickly suggests, seeing an opportunity to spend her Saturday night.

“Actually, I already sold Lottie’s ticket. I’m still going, though. I wouldn’t miss it.”

“You’re going stag to one of the most romantic concerts there is?” Brigitte asks, sounding astounded by the idea.

“Why not?” Piper shrugs. “I enjoy my own company just fine. And who knows? Maybe I’ll meet someone there. Weirder things have happened.” Piper winks suggestively before waving Brigitte goodbye.

Yes.

Weirder things have happened.

And by weirder, I mean me attending that concert.
