When I managed to open my eyes, it was to a grinning man.

“Fucking hell. Sold. I’m booking this service every day.”

I laughed again and heaved a breath.

He was okay. I hadn’t given him a heart attack or any other injury. And as I scooted off the bed, embarrassed but also elated, I could only think of how I badly wanted to do this again.

Chapter 27

Mia

Across my kitchen table, Ariel slid Daisy a glance then raised her voice. “How’s the dating going?”

I grinned at her. “Fine.”

“Fine that you’re ready to go out with someone from the app?”

The two women had been part of my original dating conversation, but I’d also made the point earlier in the evening that Valentine and I weren’t a couple.

I was easier to read than the first reader book Tobi was working her way through in the living room, Valentine’s low tones gently correcting her now and again.

“I have no idea how anyone chooses from a list of strangers and agrees to meet one in person,” I replied.

“Show me your list of matches,” Ariel asked.

I handed over my phone, open on the app with its enthusiastic red hearts spreading over the screen at each new match.

“God, how many?” she exclaimed.

“The boob pic was Valentine’s idea. That’s the only reason so many guys want to match with me.”

“There’s four thousand men dying to meet you. Holy crap.”

A figure loomed in the kitchen doorway. Valentine, wearing a strange expression. “Did I hear my name?”

Daisy grinned. “Talking about you, not to you. We’re trying to help Mia pick a date.”

Ariel squinted at the list. “You can rule out many of these on just their basic data alone.”

“How?” I asked.

“Let’s sift through the first ten and narrow things down. Guy one is divorced with two kids. Forty-three. Doesn’t want more children.” She raised her gaze to me. “Is that a dealbreaker?”

A rush of something powerful heated me. I stared at the phone. “Yes.”

“Okay, that just made this much easier. There’s a filter option for that. We can remove all the men who don’t want a family.” She tapped the screen. “That took out five hundred. Sweet. On to the next.”

I sensed Valentine’s gaze on me. I lifted mine to find him staring, his arms folded and his jaw tight.

“Okay, guy two is six-four. Do you have a preference for shorter guys?”

Valentine made an off sound.

I held in a laugh. Ariel knew exactly what she was doing.

“No, height isn’t an issue.”

“Great. Otherwise he sounds good and his picture is hot.”
