“No way,” she said. “That’s totally going to be the aliens.”

Jack nodded solemnly. “Do you think they’ll have to . . . probe him?”

“It’s the only way to get the data they’ll need.”

“Maybe we should prepare him, then,” Jack suggested.

“It’s the right thing to do,” she agreed.

Jack got off the bed, starting around it.

“What are you doing? Don’t even think about it!” Ian jumped up with a huff, his face irritated. But she couldn’t help but notice that he’d pressed his bum to the wall. “We were still talking.”

“If only that was all the aliens wanted to do.” Jack shook his head with fake sadness.

Ian crossed his arms over his chest, glaring at them both. “Enough. Now, Little girl. Limits? Safeword?”

“Oh. Um. We need that?”

“It’s always safer to have it.”

“Ian likes rules and boundaries.” Jack moved back to the bed, cuddling in next to her. “I don’t like any boundaries.”

“You have to have boundaries or you might set off a trigger,” Ian lectured. “That’s why we have these conversations. Without rules, things could turn into anarchy. No one would know where they stand.”

“He could go on about this for hours,” Jack told her. “It’s best just to give in and tell him yes.”

“Well, as long as you don’t call me a disappointment or tell me that I’m a failure and a mess, I figure we’ll be good. I mean, I might disappoint you, but if you could just tell me nicely, I think that would help.”

There was crushing silence.

“Wow. I really know how to bring the mood of a party down, huh?” she said dryly.

Ian looked furious, but it was Jack she was most worried about. He’d gone silent, but she could practically feel him vibrating beside her.

“We would never do that. Ever! And I don’t want to hear you say any of those things about yourself either.” Ian moved to her other side and sat facing her. He grasped hold of her chin. “I’ve heard you putting yourself down and I won’t have it anymore.”

What would it feel like for these men to be truly hers?

The longing was so great that it felt like she was starving. Desperate.

How did I get this lonely?

“I will kill anyone who ever calls you that,” Jack added.

Okay. He really sounded like he meant that.

That wasn’t scary at all . . . or arousing.

She had issues. Seriously.

“Who called you those things?” Ian asked.

“My family. They had their reasons.”

“No reason is good enough,” Jack told her.

Lord, these two. They were so good for her self-esteem. Reaching out, she cupped Ian’s cheek. Then she did the same to Jack. Both of them relaxed.
