That she couldn’t like pretty, pink, girly things forever.

He’d tried to take Razzie away from her when she was ten. He’d thrown him in the garbage and she’d had to sneak down during the night to rescue him, then hide him away. Scared that he’d find him again, she’d given Razzie to Loki to protect. It had been so hard to be away from Razzie, but she had to keep him safe.

Loki had always kept her safe, so she’d known that he’d do the same for Razzie.

Was it weird that the idea of him leaving for a few days upset her so much she could barely catch her breath?

It’s just . . . she was so scared that one day he wouldn’t come back.

She rubbed at her chest. Did it feel tight? When she’d gotten up before, she’d felt light-headed. It was probably just a blood pressure thing. Or an adrenaline rush from hearing him cry out.

Right?

God, she didn’t know.

And a part of her was scared it was something else.

She wanted to turn to Loki. Wake him up. Tell him her worries. But they were so stupid. She had nothing to base them on. Right?

And he had enough going on.

So she lay there, listening to him sleep, breathing in his scent. Netroli with a hint of something else. Like honey.

Please don’t go.

Stay with me.

Please don’t leave me.

Love me.

I’m so fucking scared.

He watched her.

It had become an obsession.

At first, he’d studied her because he didn’t believe she was real.

On the outside, she seemed beautiful, kind, sweet, and loyal.

But Remy had really thought that it was all an act. And that as soon as he caught her, he’d be able to stop watching her.

He’d been sure that she was spoiled. With her hair always glossy and perfect. Her nails always polished. Her make-up always done. Getting everyone else to do her bidding and never working a day in her life.

But after a few weeks, he’d had to eat his words. Because she really was that sweet and nice.

She might be pint-sized and stunningly beautiful. She might look fragile and like a princess. But she was also intelligent, loyal, and fierce.

As soon as he’d realized that there wasn’t one spoiled bone in her body, and that she’d do anything for anyone who needed it, he’d become even more obsessed.

It wasn’t healthy, but watching her had become his happy place. It was his gift to himself.

He had this driving need to ensure she was safe. That she was being cared for.

And right now . . . he didn’t think that was happening.
