“I’m just a bit shaken and sore. I promise.”

He nodded. “Where are you sore?”

“Oh, where I slammed against the seatbelt, so across my chest. And my neck, I guess.”

“Hot shower, food, and bed.”

“I’ll take the shower and bed. I don’t want the food.” She felt queasy.

She figured he’d argue, but he just nodded. Standing, he bent down and lifted her into his arms.

“What are you doing?” she asked.

“Carrying you.” He carried her into the bathroom and set her down on the counter.

“Um, you don’t have to carry me everywhere. I really can walk.”

“Why walk when I can carry you?”

“So you’re just going to start carrying me everywhere, then?” she teased.

Well, she tried to make her tone sound teasing. But even she could hear the longing in it.

Which was dumb.

Since she was good at walking. She liked to walk. She had mad walking skills.

You also like being carried by this man. You like being in his arms, feeling his strength.

Because ,boy, Remy was built. Like a bull. Strong and wide. It felt like nothing could get her when she was in his arms.

She’d only ever felt like this with Loki.

So it also felt a bit wrong. Like a betrayal.

Only . . . Loki didn’t want her like that. He was her best friend.

Remy turned on the shower, then spun back to where he’d set her on the counter, eyeing her. “Don’t want you freaking out on me, but I also don’t want you falling in the shower.”

Huh?

The painkillers hadn’t kicked in yet, so she was having some trouble following what he was saying.

“You steady enough to shower alone?” he asked.

“Yes,” she squeaked out. Okay, now she understood. “You are not helping me shower.”

“Hmm. The door stays open. Yell out if you feel dizzy.”

“You know, you really can just go home. I’ll be fine.”

“Is Loki coming home tonight?” he asked.

“I don’t . . . I don’t know. Probably not.”

“Then I’m not going,” he said firmly. “You shouldn’t be alone.”

“I could call a friend.”
