“I do not.”

“I told you to stay,” he said.

“I thought I should ask you if you wanted a drink.”

“If I want a drink, I’ll get it,” he replied. “What I want is for you to sit still so I can check you over.”

“I’m fine.”

“Problems following orders,” he repeated.

“Are you punking me?” she asked.

“Yeah, you’re not the punking type,” she muttered. “Have you always been this arrogant?”

“Yep.”

Okay. She guessed he was just born this way.

“Sit down. You want a drink?” he asked.

“Yes, please. There’s a can of Dr Pepper in the fridge.”

“You can have water.”

“It’s a wonder no one has ever tried to cure you,” she muttered.

“Pardon?”

“Of your affliction.”

“What affliction?” He returned with a glass of water.

“Your arrogance.”

She swallowed them with a grimace.

“Gonna check for a concussion.” He shone the flashlight on his phone into her right eye, then her left.

“Pupils look all right. Any blurred or double vision?”

“No.” Thank goodness. The last thing she wanted was to see two of him.

Liar.
