“You’re not listening to a word I’m saying. That’s fine. Your father and I will be there in an hour,” my mother confirmed before hanging up.
“Shit. Fuck. Shit. Fucking bullshit!” I cursed, punching the air.
I love my parents despite their pushy and overbearing ways, but no pun intended, a lot of shit is going on right now, and entertaining them isn’t on my priority list. Not only that, but my father is like a rainstorm on an outside wedding. This will be interesting….
“Dad,” Grant said in a sour tone over the baby monitor.
“Grant! Give it back! Mr. Jonathan said I’m in charge of the monitor!” Kiyah fussed.
“Take a nap, KiKi.”
Kiyah hates being called KiKi. Drama is about to ensue in three…two…one…
“Okay, GRANNY!”
I abandoned the snacks as soon as arguments ensued.
If my parents want in on the madness, then be my freaking guest.
Chapter Forty
Kierra
“You’ve got to be kidding me,” I complained when I noticed the only Pedialyte shelved was orange-flavored—the same one that didn’t agree with the kids’ stomach.
I squatted low and shoved some bottles aside, hoping to find a spare grape or cherry flavor.
“Do you need help finding something?” an employee asked.
Thank God. Maybe they have what I need stashed in the back.
“Yes, thank you. Do you have any other flavors besides orange?” I asked, standing upright.
“I’m not sure, but I’ll be happy to check in the back. I’ll be right back.”
He left, and I grabbed a couple of things we needed on the next few aisles and returned right as he rounded the corner. My shoulders sagged when he returned empty-handed.
“I’m sorry, ma’am. This is all we have, but I checked a nearby store, and they have more in stock there.”
I bit back a groan.
I don’t want to make another stop. I need to get back to Jon and the kids, but it is what it is.
“No worries. Thanks for checking.”
I left the aisle and paused in front of a flower display. I wanted to get some for Jonathan as a pick-me-up, but I wouldn’t be able to carry the essentials and a bouquet of daisies and dandelions. I snapped a picture and sent it to him with a message that I was thinking of him. It wasn’t until I was paying when he responded with a crying and heart-eyed emoji.
Jon:They’re beautiful.
Kierra:So are you.
Jon:I’m adding another grand to your debt.
I giggled and swiped my debit card.
Kierra:I look forward to it.
Jon:I don’t mean to alarm you, but my parents are en route. I attempted to dissuade them, but are they really your parents if they respect your boundaries?
