“Hell no. This isn’t about me; it’s about them,” I say, nodding toward the front where my mom and Brady stand. We decide to drink, but only after their joint speech.

Then we haul ass out of the room, searching for the kitchen and the good shit.

Chapter 7

Rylan

I’ve mingled about as much as I can without snapping someone’s fucking neck, especially Brady’s. I’m not sure what the fuck is going on with him and Syn, but I see the way he looks at her, and it pisses me off.

“You okay?” Levi asks. I shake my head.

“I’m sick of this shit. It’s too stuffy in here,” I tell him, adjusting the collar of my shirt.

“You’re not wrong.”

“I’m going for a walk,” I tell him. He nods as I start walking out of the main room and down the hall. I can hear laughing from here, even over the music. Curiosity gets the best of me, and I head in the direction of the sounds.

I find the kitchen and the source of the laughter. It’s Syn and Angel with some other guy. I look at him harder when I realize who it is. It’s Ronald, her mom’s driver. The three of them laugh as they pass a bottle around.

“Having fun?” I ask, catching the attention of all of them. I notice Ronald is a little too close to Syn for my liking. Casually, I walk around the counter next to the knives and pull one free, toying with it while I look at them.

“We’re having a great time now,” Angel says, shaking the bottle at me. I smile and nod my head, dragging my gaze back to Ronald’s.

“Haven’t seen you around much, Ron,” I call him Ron because I know how much he hates the fucking nickname. I see his jaw clench, but he isn’t going to say anything to me.

“Just working.”

“Yeah, I bet you have.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?” he snaps at me. I press the tip of the knife into my finger just enough to puncture the skin. Blood blooms on the pad as I pull the knife away and rub my fingers together.

“Who else do you work for, Ron?” I ask, keeping the conversation light for the moment.

“Just the Willow’s.” I nod my head.

“And yet you’re in here when you should be out there waiting for them.”

“What the fuck, Rylan? Why are you always trying to ruin someone’s fun,” Syn slurs. I step closer, resting the knife on the counter next to me but never taking my hand off the handle.

“Ruin your fun? I’d never do that, Syn.”

“Of course you would. That’s all you ever do,” she snaps at me. Now, I smirk at her and step even closer, bringing the knife with me. When I’m close to Syn, I press the tip of the knife to her cheek and watch as her eyes widen.

“What the fuck are you doing?” Ronald yells. I turn my gaze to him and grin.

“If you don’t want me to carve up her pretty little face, I suggest you get your ass out of here now.” The words come out as a low growl, but when Ronald doesn’t make a move to leave, I press the tip into Syn’s flesh. She makes a small squeak sound as her lips part, and she gazes drunkenly up at me.

“Fine! I’m leaving,” he abruptly puts the bottle down on the table and walks away. I pull the knife away from Syn’s cheek and bring it to my mouth, sliding it between my lips. Then I lick the drop of her blood off it while Angel and Syn watch me.

“That’s …” Angel begins but doesn’t finish. She doesn’t know what to say. I toss the knife on the table as Syn grabs the bottle and takes another long pull. I pull out my cell and call the guys, informing them this party is over and we need to take these two home. No way in fuck will they be with Ronald alone tonight.

Levi and Silas agree to meet me in the kitchen. I snatch the bottle from Syn and bring it to my lips, running the tip of my tongue around the mouth of the bottle as Syn watches me with wide eyes.

“Holy shit,” Angel breathes as her eyes watch too. Then I tip it up and take a small drink. I swallow the liquid, savoring the burn as it slides down my throat. Syn licks her lips, but then I notice she’s about to pass out. I set the bottle down and reach for her just as her eyes roll back, and she falls into my waiting arms.

“Damn, she’s out already?” Silas asks when they walk in.

“They’ve been drinking a lot. Take Angel home?” I ask him. He nods and pulls a drunken Angel into his arms as I heft Syn over my shoulder. Levi follows me out the back, making sure no one sees us leave with her like this.
