“I don’t really know why you expect me to cheat on my future husband with you.”

“I just told you why.”

“That’s not a good enough reason.” I lean down so my lips are nearly touching hers, teasing her.

“What if you don’t have a husband?”

“What does that mean?”

“It means I can make him disappear,” I answer softly. Syn’s eyes widen as she slowly shakes her head.

“You wouldn’t dare.”

“I would dare.”

“What if it’s one of your friends? Silas? Levi? Are you going to kill them too?” she smarts off. I grin at her.

“I think you already know the answer to that, Syn.”

“You wouldn’t kill them, Ry. They’ve been your friends since they were born.” I keep the grin in place as I look into her eyes. She has to know I will kill anyone, and I mean anyone, who gets in the way of what I want. “You would, wouldn’t you?” She whispers.

“Now you’re catching on. Listen, I have to be gone for a little while, but I’ll be back soon. Don’t do anything stupid, Syn.”

“Define stupid.” Jesus, this girl sounds just like me.

“I have eyes everywhere, Syn. If you so much as look at another man, I’ll know, and I’ll make you pay for it.” With that, I drop a kiss on her lips before pulling away and walking off.

I jog out to the parking lot, meeting Silas, Levi, and a few other Kings. We stand around talking for a few minutes before we climb into the SUVs and take off. I’ve already packed a bag and have all my shit ready to go, but I wanted to see Syn before we left.

I sit back and relax, knowing the drive is going to take a little while. I close my eyes and let the rest of the world drift away, if only for a few minutes.

My time is cut short when Silas speaks.

“How many Kings are going down there?” he asks. I lift my head and open my eyes to look over at him.

“From what my dad has said, twelve. There’s also going to be some Gods to handle clean up and move the kids if we find any,” I tell him.

“You know I fucking hate this shit. I hate seeing those kids’ faces. It kills me to even look at them knowing what they’re going through.”

“I get it. I feel the same.”

“You ever think about leaving it all behind?” Silas asks. I nod my head because I’ve thought about it more than I care to admit. But then I remember who the hell I am and what I do. What would I do in the real world? What kind of person would I be?

“We wouldn’t be shit in the real world,” I tell him.

“That’s true. Here, we have power. We have money.” I nod. He’s not wrong. We go on to talk about other things as the ride continues. We cross the border easier than I thought we would, but with the kind of money the Kings have, there shouldn’t be any issues.

We keep driving until we get to the hotel. When Levi parks the SUV, we climb out and stretch. We’ll meet up with the other Kings here.

“I’m fucking starving,” Silas whines.

“Then let’s eat. We’re not doing shit until tomorrow anyway,” Levi chimes in. Not that I feel like going out, but I could eat.

“Yeah, let’s go,” Silas speaks Spanish, so he asks where the local restaurants are. The guy tells him they’re within walking distance, so we start that way.

“It’s hot as fuck down here,” Levi complains. He’s not wrong. It is hot.

By the time we make it to the restaurant, I’m dripping with sweat. I wipe my hand across my forehead as we step inside and find a table.
