I don’t answer him. I just shrug and turn to leave. The Gods may know a lot, but they sure as hell don’t need to know what I’m doing in my personal time.

And that was my personal time.

Chapter 6

Tamsyn

I look amazing, thanks to Angel for doing my hair and makeup. I stand in front of the floor-length mirror and take myself in while Angel watches me.

“You look great,” she says as I nod my head. My long dark hair is curled, hanging around my shoulders, bouncing with my every move. My eyes are lined in black eyeliner, making them even darker. Pair that with a black silk dress, and I look like I’m right off a dark magazine cover. Mom told me to wear a red dress, but that isn’t my thing, and fuck what she has to say.

“Your mom is going to flip her shit,” Angel adds as I begin to laugh.

“That’s the point, isn’t it? I want to see her pissed off.”

“Well, I think this will do it.” I nod my head once more and look at myself in the mirror. I can’t believe that’s me. I can’t believe Angel worked her magic and made me look like this. It’s not that I’m not girly; I am, just not super girly like most of the princesses are.

“You ready? We’re going to be late.” I sigh and grab my purse off the dresser, shoving my phone inside before turning and following her out the door. We’re down the stairs and out the front door, where our driver waits for us in minutes. When he sees us, he climbs out quickly, taking us in before opening the door for us. He’s my mom’s usual driver, and I know him fairly well. We’ve hooked up a few times in the past, as he isn’t much older than we are.

“You look breathtaking, Tamsyn.”

“Thank you. You’ll find me later?” I ask him. A smile lights up his face, and he quickly nods his head before helping me into the car.

“You’re not fucking Ronald again,” Angel says when I get in and get comfortable.

“And why not?”

“There are rules, Tamsyn.”

“Rules are meant to be broken, Angel. I mean, come on. Do you really want to be stuck with the same man all your life and not even test the waters?” She seems to think about that for a second, and I know she isn’t a virgin, so I don’t know why she’s acting like this anyway.

“Fuck. You’re right. Fuck Ronald all you want, girl. I got your back.”

“And that’s exactly why we’re friends, Angel,” I tell her as the car starts moving. I’m not looking forward to tonight because Brady makes my fucking skin crawl, and any time I have to be near him makes me sick to my stomach. Mom should know he’s not worth a damn, but all she sees is money and a title. Not that we don’t have money without him, because we do. My dad left everything he had to my mom and me.

We pull up at the mansion where the party is being held, and Ronald climbs out to open our door. He helps both of us out and then clears his throat, winking at me before getting back in the car. Something unsettling shivers in my stomach, and I can only imagine what that might be. Then I look to my left and see the cause of it.

Rylan.

He’s dressed in a fucking suit, of all things, making him look even more gorgeous than he does in his jeans and hoodie. He starts to turn his head, but I turn mine away first, looking up the steps as Angel and I begin to walk.

“You wouldn’t be trying to run from me, would you, Syn?” His voice goes straight to my core, and I don’t even think he knows he’s doing it. I straighten my spine and glance over at him, shaking my head.

“Why would I?”

“Maybe you’re afraid of me.” Now, a laugh bursts from my lips.

“I’m not afraid of you,” I reply, bursting his little bubble. Ry doesn’t smile; he just stares at me with those black pits he calls eyes. Then he’s leaning in closer and whispers in my ear, “You may not be afraid of me yet. But you will be.” He starts to pull away when I see Silas and Levi move in front of me, each grabbing an arm of Angel’s. I sigh as I start up the stairs until Ry stops me.

He grabs my arm roughly, jerking me back, almost causing me to fall down the steps, but his strong body is there to stop me. I slam into him, and a burst of air escapes my lungs.

“Looks like you’re with me tonight, little Syn.” I shiver at his nickname for me.

“I don’t think so,” I argue, trying to pull my arm away from him. His grip only tightens, and I find myself loving the feel of his rough hand on my flesh.

“Don’t cause a scene, Syn.” I look up to see the older Kings watching us intently. I’ve never stepped out of line with the Kings, and I’m not entirely sure I want to know what happens if I do.

Ry straightens his spine and locks my arm around his as we walk up the stairs. The older Kings smile happily as the two of us walk inside, arm in arm.
