My mom blushes as she sweeps her hand through the air. “It was nothing, but thank you, Grant.”

All I can think is that Grant is going to say something about Rome and me, and I really do not want to live through that. The whole family knows about us, but we’ve been trying not to make a big deal of it. It’s just a normal relationship that’s happened under the least conventional circumstances.

“I’ve decided to run for mayor,” Grant blurts out like it’s no big deal, just a casual statement during dinner.

“Are you serious?” Wilder exclaims. “Dad, that’s amazing.”

Mom claps her hands together gleefully. “I’m so proud of you, honey. I have no doubt you’ll win next year’s election.”

We all congratulate Grant, and Rome even gets up and gives his dad a hug.

“There’s one more thing,” Grant says, his tone more serious now. The corners of his mouth crinkle. “Once my candidacy is announced, we will be under the public eye. Mayor Jenkins is known to be a very competitive man, so he will dig deep to find anything he can use against me, and our family. Let’s not give him anything to find.”

“Is that Ms. Jenkins's husband?” I ask out of curiosity.

“Yeah,” Wilder grumbles as he shifts in his chair, his face seemingly red. “And the guy’s a fucking tool.”

Grant’s eyes snap to Wilder. “Watch your language, young man. But yes, the guy is…intense.”

“We’ll do whatever we can to help,” Brogan says, speaking for all of us. “We’re very excited for you, Grant.”

“Thank you, Brogan. Your support means a lot.”

When we finish eating, the guys clear the table while us girls work on the dishes.

As I scrub at a stubborn stain in a pan, Rome enters with a large casserole dish. Setting it down beside me, he leans in from behind and plants a soft kiss on my cheek. “Have I told you how cute you look washing those dishes?”

I smile, shaking my head. “No, you haven’t, but you’re welcome to.”

“You look cute as fuck. In fact, you look so cute, I’m going to need to see you in my room. I’ve got news to share, too.”

My eyes snap to his. “Good news?”

“You’ll just have to wait and see.”He taps my ass while no one is looking and my cheeks redden.

I chuckle. “Rules, Rome. We can’t break them.”

“Fuck the rules.” He bites his lip and I nearly drop the damn dish, he’s so fucking hot. “I need you so damn bad.”

I clench my thighs at his words, washing the dishes faster just so I can escape and hide away with him. I used to be a rule follower without question, but nowadays, Rome has me questioning a lot of things about myself.

My patience gets the best of me and I’m anxious as hell to feel Rome’s body against mine. Not to mention, he said he has news. While everyone is occupied, I slip out of the kitchen.

Moving quickly, I make my way to Rome’s room, and without knocking, I go in.

He’s on his back on the bed with his arms folded under his pillow. “Took you long enough.”

I crawl up the bed, wrapping my legs around his torso as I lean into him. “Did you miss me?” My lips press to his in a soft, tantalizing kiss.

Grabbing my ass with both hands, he squeezes. “So fucking much. I missed you, and this ass.” He smacks it lightly, careful not to be too loud.

“Mmm,” I hum, peppering his neck with kisses. “Care to show me just how much?”

“Take these jeans off and I’d be happy to,” he says as he pulls at the button.

I pull both of his wrists, planting them on either side of his waist. He bucks his hips in anticipation. My gaze meets his as he allows me to hold him down. “First, what’s this news you have to share?”

Rome clicks his tongue on the roof of his mouth, testing my patience. I slap his chest playfully, deciding two can play at that game. I lift my shirt just enough for him to see the lace underneath before I let it fall back down again.
