Little did I know I was going to be left with a mountain of a debt that I thought was going to be in both of our names, but I was too trusting. Everything was in my name, and I couldn’t even prove it was for his business. Once I left him, he turned into a completely different man, and while I didn’t love him anymore, I still felt used and regrettably, missed the man. Scratch that stupidity, I missed having a life with someone.

Shaking off the melancholy, I left the office and headed straight to the dining table that had the boxes I needed to go through. Starting on the checklist Adrian left, I lost myself in the work until I realized Lincoln had left his office.

“Mr. Valbuena, do you need me to?—”

“I got it Noemi.” He smiled at me as he walked to the elevator.

I heard them say their hellos, they laughed and the other voice sounded just as nice as Lincoln's deep voice. Their footsteps got closer, and I willed myself not to look up, continuing my work. I called the restaurant to check on their food, then gave them a few minutes to settle before headed into his office with water on a tray.

Knocking before I entered, I walked in quietly, hearing them discuss money, but they stopped when I got close to the desk. I set their waters down, feeling their eyes on me, and I hated that I felt my cheeks get red.

“They are delivering lunch soon, would you like it as soon as it gets here?” I looked at Lincoln then glanced at the other man.

It was supposed to be a quick glance, but he caught my attention immediately. This man was breathtaking. He exuded confidence, his brown eyes were like milk chocolate, inviting and captivating. His hair was dark with gray at his temples that made him even sexier and a five o’clock shadow that screamed debonair.

What the hell was in the air these days? Hot guys were just popping up out of nowhere.

“Vincent,” he said, holding his hand out.

“Noemi,” I said, shaking his hand, hoping I wasn’t in a daze for too long that I missed something.

“Pleasure to meet you,” he said, not breaking eye contact.

My stomach swooped with his expression, he looked hungry, and I felt like his next meal. His gaze was commanding, trapping me in whatever he held me in. A throat cleared, making me quickly pull my hand away. The sound of the elevator was a bucket of cold water that I needed.

“That’s the food, I’ll be right back,” I said, quickly exiting the room.

The universe was on my side by not letting me fall flat on my face as I left the room in a hurry. I took a deep breath trying to compose myself, surprised my underwear didn’t self-combust when that man looked at me the way he did.

The concierge waited by the elevator, giving me a friendly smile before I took the bag to the kitchen. I quickly plated the lunches up and set them on the tray. I didn’t even know if they wanted to eat now, but the sooner I got this over with, the quicker I could get my work done and leave.

Walking towards the office, I realized I had left the door open in my hasty retreat.

“Don’t,” Lincoln's voice was threatening. “She’s new, we like her and Adrian needs someone to help.”

“I was just stating she was a beautiful woman.” Vincent’s voice held an innocent tone to it.

“You’ve been back for a few months, let’s not go through the population of women too quickly,” Lincoln joked. “I don’t think she’s a part of the community, either.”

“I would take offense to that if I was more sensitive. I haven’t even had a chance to do much with the opposite sex,” he said, in a defensive tone.

“Oh, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to leave out the same sex as well,” Lincoln said, with a laugh.

“I mean, why limit yourself to just one?” Vincent's velvet voice gave me goosebumps.

“But seriously, don’t mess with my assistant, she’s nice and so far, chill. I’d hate for Adrian to have to go through interviews again because your dick couldn’t stay in your pants.”

“Look, I can’t?—”

I don’t know why I chose that moment to walk into the office, but the thought of him saying he would never do anything with me made me feel weird.

“Here’s lunch,” I said, walking through the door.

I smiled, hoping that it looked natural enough for them not to call me out on my behavior earlier.

Setting their food down with utensils, I looked up at them. “Need anything else?”

“No, we are good.” Lincoln nodded at me.
