“With the power vested in me, I pronounce you man and wife.” The balding priest’s voice shook.

We all knew his power only extended to marrying inside his church, but somehow, Sean ensured he married us on the grounds. The poor man looked ready to leave, but his fear didn’t dim my happiness. I was used to people being terrified of my husband. True to his word, he arranged for us to get married this weekend.

Sean dipped to kiss me, not waiting to be told.

“Wife,” he growled as he pulled away.

“Husband.”

The dimple reappeared, and he spun me to face a small crowd of family and friends. The sun was out, and despite the frigid air, it warmed my face. We’d been lucky with the weather.

A lump rose in my throat when my eyes caught on Antonia, my old teacher. She beamed at me, dabbing at her eyes.Sean had tracked her down and invited her. I’d ruined my makeup this morning when she came to see me, telling me how proud my mamá would have been of me.

“Wait a moment,” Sean growled into my ear, making me pause.

Music started, and a mariachi band appeared around the corner of the house. All dressed in traditional clothes, they began to sing. My stomach fluttered, and I gripped Sean’s arm. The song’s words about love and devotion brought a lump to my throat. I glanced at Sean, who was staring down at me with his intense gaze. The song crescendoed, and I revelled in his thoughtfulness.

“Thank you.” I beamed at him.

“Anything for you, a chuisle.”

We kissed again until a wolf whistle rang out. I glanced up, knowing it was Loch. He had Rada on his knee and was grinning.

We walked down the short aisle to the recently erected marquee, the band’s music following us. The theme was hummingbirds, and I teared up when I looked at one.

A server went to hand me a glass of champagne, and Sean growled at him, snatching it away. The guy yipped and ran away.

“That’s my job.” He passed me the glass, and I giggled.

“Do you need a yellow card?”

He pulled me against him, clinking our glasses. “Not on our wedding day. Wife,” he said possessively.

“Well then, you better behave.” I winked at him.

Loch walked over, towing Rada.

“Made an honest man of you.” He slapped Sean on the back.

Sean flipped him off. “Getting married didn’t work that way for you.”

They embraced each other, and I smiled at Rada. We’d grown closer, but the ever-present sadness that followed her around lingered, and I wished we could do more about her sister.

Two good-looking men, whom I recognised as the Steel Brothers, appeared behind Loch. They had beautiful women by their sides, one platinum blonde who looked heavily pregnant and the other dark-haired.

“Congratulations,” the dark-haired guy I knew to be Liam Reid said, extending his hand to Sean.

Sean ignored his hand and pulled him into a hug. “Cousin.”

Liam slapped his back. “Worth saving your miserable arse all those years ago, then.”

Sean laughed. “I’m a miserable arse?”

Liam scowled at him and extended his hand to me. Sean knocked it away and glared at him.

“How the tables turn. It’s nice to meet you finally,” Liam said, smirking at me. “This is my wife, Chloe.” He indicated the pregnant blonde at his side.

“You look stunning,” she said, smiling at me.
