My lips part. He slides in and out and I squeeze his ass. “I love you, too, Khristian. You’ve no idea how much.”

He plunges back in and sends me to heaven once more.

I’m reeling from our confessions last night.

Khristian has been distant.

I don’t know if it’s because of what we said, but it was a big revelation, and he’d been drinking. He had his head in his laptop the whole way to London. And since Morgan and Johans were with us this time, I couldn’t outrightly ask him anything without them hearing.

Just before we land, Khristian finally addresses me. “Have fun with your friend today. If she wants, we can have dinner at the hotel.”

I nod. “Thank you, Khristian.”

“We’ll be looking at shop spaces for most of today, you’ll have a driver. Charge everything you buy to my card.” He slides a black Amex over the table at me.

“That won’t be…”

His eyes narrow. “Take it, Imogen. This is a work trip.” He leans over the table. “I want you to buy yourself something nice for dinner tonight.”

I swallow hard.

Morgan and Johans are in the seats on the other side of the plane, and from what I can gather, they both have earphones in.

“Do you like me taking care of myself with your money?” I ask.

He stares at me. “Yes. While we’re on the subject, my lawyer Harold emailed me again. I’d like you to touch base with him before the weekend so we can prepare for your court date. If we can’t settle it sooner.”

I look back at him blankly. “I don’t want to go to court, Khristian. It’s my mother.”

He gives me a look. “Your mother is the one suing you, remember? So if you don’t want to go to court, then you have to meet with her.”

I know I’ve been putting it off, but being with Khristian has made me forget all that horribleness. At least for a while.

“I told you. My plan is to just give her the money back. I’ve been thinking about it.”

“Even if that’s what your dad didn’t want?”

I shrug. “Not if it means fighting with my family.”

“So she’d rather you be homeless than let you have what he left for you?”

“I doubt she’d go that far…”

“Did she offer you your room back when you lost your job, during the pandemic?”

I open my mouth and close it again. He knows the answer to that.

“I wouldn’t go back there anyway,” I argue. “I couldn’t live with her ever again.”

“You’re too nice, which is why she thinks she can walk all over you.” He sounds angry. “At least hear my lawyer out, before you go making any crazy decisions.”

I’m a little incensed that he thinks my decisions are crazy. I don’t want to be fighting with my mom, even if we don’t get along.

I nod. “I will. Thank you, Khristian. It’s very kind of you.”

He runs a hand over his scruff. I love it when he doesn’t shave. “It’s nothing. There is no point in me acquiring this kind of wealth and status if I can’t help the people I care about.”

My eyes go slightly round.
