I can hardly believe I’m in London and I have Khristian to thank for it.

We plan to hit the shops after lunch at Nobu in Mayfair.

Of course, Charlize knows all the designer stores around here, not that she can afford it as she keeps telling me how expensive everything is. I can sense she’s a little overwhelmed by it all.

“Do you think you’ll come back to Seattle soon?” I ask. “Or stick it out a little longer.”

“I had hoped that I’d find a cheaper flat, but right now, I’m sharing with a cool chick called Roxy. She’s a dancer.”

“Oh, wow, as in ballet?”

“No, as in erotic.”

I snort. “Well, you do have long legs, if you want to switch careers.”

She laughs. “Tell me about it. Making ends meet in London is hard, but I’m loving the experience. I just wish I had more time to meet guys. I’m working two jobs and I hate to sound like an old crow, but I’m so freaking tired.”

I give her a sympathetic smile. “I think it’s so brave to come here and travel by yourself. I can’t say I’d have the guts to do it.”

She shrugs. “I’ve always wanted to see London. I didn’t get to see much of it when I was a kid.”

Charlize lost her mom quite a few years ago but like my mom and I, they were never close. She also spent years in boarding school, her step-dad barely present. She once told me that she believed he only married her mom so they could get their inheritances, and it was a deal that worked for both of them.

The whole thing sounds complicated, but Charlize doesn’t like to talk about it.

Her real father abandoned them when she was just a baby.

“Well, I think it’s amazing, Charli. If only Ari could be with us now, too.”

She pouts, taking a sip of her wine. “That reminds me. Mr. Petrov’s schlong.”

I lower my voice. “Oh, you have no idea. The man is insatiable.”

“Did you do it on his plane?”

I roll my lips.

“Oh, my god. You totally did!” She laughs.

“Let’s just say, Khristian has a new obsession and it just happens to be me.”

She claps her hands together. “I’m so glad to hear someone other than Ari is getting some. I’ve had the worst dry spell ever.”

“Sweetie. It’ll be okay. You never know, you might find the man of your dreams in this big old town.”

She snorts. “Just a root would be good for now.”

I roll my eyes. Root is Australian slang for sex. I swear sometimes I need a translator when I’m around Charlize.

I burst out laughing.

She looks up at me, leaning over on the table. “Seriously, Imi. I’m so glad to see you happy after everything. You deserve it.”

I nod, looking down at my plate. “I still haven’t called my mom.”

“Good, and you shouldn’t. I want to see her ass wiped across that courtroom floor. Swear to god she has it coming.”

I sigh. “I don’t get why she’s doing this to me. I don’t even want my dad’s money. But to make me feel guilty over it, and then try to take it back? Who does that? It’s not like he left her with nothing.”
