“Kris told me you were evasive about, you know, sex?—”

“Oh, for Luna’s sake!” I growled. “Of course I was…he is my brother.”

“I know,” she said calmly. “Which is why you and I are here, alone, with wine. Talk.”

Turning to face her, I narrowed my eyes, watching as she sipped her wine. “Are you trying to get me drunk so I will tell you details?”

Cass nodded enthusiastically. “Yes. And when you are super drunk, I’m going to tell you mine.”

I was already shaking my head. “No, not happening. I do not want to hear about my brother’s bits and your bits, and no, not today. Not ever.”

Cass started laughing again, and I took a large gulp of wine.

“Cass?”

We both froze as the voice got closer.

“Cass, you here? I’m back.”

“I didn’t know,” Cass whispered quickly to me. “I promise.” She shot me an apologetic smile and then shouted, “I’m out back with Kezia.”

There went the idea of jumping the fence.

Landon paused at the patio door, his gaze wary as he looked between us. “Hi,” he offered, his eyes locked on mine. “You’re here?”

“In the flesh.” My voice had more bite than it should, and I took another drink to hide my grimace. “How was your trip?” I asked, remembering right up until I left the peak, Landon had also been my friend.

“Good.” Uncertainty made him hold back, but out of the corner of my eye, I saw the not-so-subtle nod from his twin, and Landon cautiously walked forward. “We got a lot of stuff, I…” He looked at the glasses and then over his shoulder. “Can I join?”

“Of course,” Cass said, springing to her feet. “Red or white?”

“Beer?” he answered with an easy smile as his sister pushed past him on her way into the house. Landon’s gaze rested on mine once more. “Can I stay?”

“Sure,” I told him, hoping my voice was as bright and breezy as Cass’s. “She’s your sister, after all.”

“And you are my mate.”

It hung there between us, the awkward silence stretching until I cleared my throat.

“Do you really think so?” I asked quietly, staring at my now empty glass. Where did all the wine go?

“Yes,” Landon took a few eager steps forward and then seemed to stop himself from coming any farther. “Can’t you feel it, Kezia?”

No. “I don’t know,” I lied. Tilting my glass, I made brief eye contact with him. “I need more.”

“I’m coming,” Cass called from the kitchen. “Just getting snacks.”

“Eavesdropping ho,” Landon muttered as he sat opposite me.

“I heard that, jerk!” Cass yelled, and we both smiled at how predictable she was.

The easy familiarity of the siblings bickering relaxed me. “What did you get? Anything new? Phones?”

Landon looked surprised. “We don’t need phones on the peak. Everyone we know is here.”

How incredibly shortsighted. I knew he had a phone as did Cass. My brother showed me his earlier, but the rest of the pack didn’t get technology. Bale didn’t think we needed it. There was a common hall for mingling as pack.

We ate there.
