Why would he? He knew as well as I did that I’d lost control of everything that day in the clearing. I wouldn’t be surprised if he knew more than I did about what I had done, what she had done.

No. What we had done.

Cannon wanted me to say it out loud. Admit I lost control, blacked out, and gone rogue.

Well, he could want. I would never admit it. They would need to force it from me.

I was also missing my normal servers. Royce and Nikan were conspicuous in their absence too. Instead, I had a new guy—older, gruffer who refused to make eye contact with me as if I was some form of demon that could entrap him with a single look.

Because I was a petty, moody teenager locked in a cell, I took great delight in taunting him, making strange noises and babbling in gibberish just to mess with him.

He lasted two meal trays, and then Cannon was back. He crossed the floor, his look telling me he knew exactly what I’d been doing. He opened the cell door and unceremoniously dumped the tray on the floor, the soup spilling over the sides of the bowl.

“Asshole,” I hissed, racing across the floor to grab my dinner before he tipped the tray over just for spite. Picking up the bowl, I drank from it, grabbing a spoon, watching him watch me as I backed away with my dinner. The thick broth was delicious.

“I’m the asshole?” He scoffed. “Wyatt is refusing to come into the possessed shes den.”

I stopped drinking, my head bent as I picked up the spoon, my hair hiding my grin. “Who’s Wyatt?”

“You’re being a brat.”

I lifted the heavy-loaded spoonful of broth and winked at him as I ate.

“Anterrio Pack should be ashamed of themselves if this is the caliber of their young,” he muttered, slamming the cell door shut. He turned to leave, and I realized I didn’t want him to go.

“You’ve been gone?”

Cannon turned to look at me over his shoulder. “Have I?”

I gave him a look that told him exactly what I thought of his subterfuge. “Where’s Nikan? Royce? Where’ve you been?”

Turning, he adopted his usual stance. I felt a thrill of pleasure as his biceps bulged. Thank you, Luna.

“What are you looking at?” Cannon looked down at his shirt in confusion.

“Huh?” I drank from the bowl, hiding my horror at being caught. “Eating,” I told him as I chewed the chicken in the broth.

“I don’t believe you.”

Snorting, I finished my soup and went back to my tray. “Tell me something I don’t know.” When I lifted the lid off the plate, I grinned when I saw the roast meat and mashed potatoes and eagerly grabbed a stalk of broccoli. “Ugh, I never thought I would be so happy to see vegetables.”

“You’re one of the strangest creatures I’ve ever met.”

“Thanks.” I cut into the meat, taking a huge forkful. “This is so good,” I told him as I chewed.

“Whoever made this, tell them I love them.”

“Love?” he asked in amusement. “We only kissed once.”

I stopped midchew, staring at the food on my plate and then at him. “You made this?”

His head tilted to the side as I cautiously sniffed my meal. “If I wanted to poison you, pup, I would have done it weeks ago.”

“You cooked?” I really wanted to put the plate down, but the smell of it had me salivating. My hand moved of its own accord as I scooped mashed potatoes onto my fork. “Are you shitting me?”

“No.”

I squinted at him as I ate more. “I’ve never seen an alpha cook.”
