“Fuck no.”

I grab his face, forcing his attention toward me. “Jackson. I mean it. What we’re going to do is dangerous. If we do have a child together and something happens to me, you have to find our pup and be a father.”

His teeth mash together, and his nostrils flare. For a moment, I’m sure I see his wolf’s red eyes flash, but it’s gone so fast I may have imagined it.

“I’ll be a father if I need to be, and you’ll be there to be a mother. But we don’t know anything, Dove.”

“We know we were imprinted. We know that’s done to breed pairs. I know how the Order works, Jackson. We would have been pushed into heat every chance they got to ensure a viable pregnancy.” I close my eyes, trying to block out the pain that accompanies my words. My heart feels heavy and labored as it beats. “I think we had a child. I feel it. Her. I feel her.”

When I was in the facility, the part I do remember, I felt lost—like something was missing from me. I assumed it was Jackson my body was remembering, and I even told him that, but now… Now I’m not so sure it wasn’t Jackson and our child.

“If we have a pup, we’ll find her.”

“I know,” I say, because I’m not going to stop searching until I have the truth. “Clover… the girl I was locked away with. She might know.”

“She’s in the facility, right?”

I nod. “I don’t know how to get to her, but she can help.” I blow out a breath. “I want to help her anyway. She was good to me while I was locked away. She took care of me, Jacks. I want her out of there too.”

He crushes me against his chest, pressing his mouth to my hair. I could get lost for an eternity in his arms, and I cling to him, refusing to let him go.

“We’ll save her. We’ll save them all, but I need you to be strong,” he says. “Things are going to get worse before they get better, but we will fight. Everything you said was right, Dove. We have to stop being scared and take a stand. This is the time for us to make a difference.”

I don’t know how he does it, but he manages to make all my doubts drift away. Once again, I feel strong, resolute, and I know it is because I have Jackson at my side.

This is the right decision, and maybe Callum isn’t who we think he is—maybe he has his own agenda, but so do we. We want his coven to help us find our truth, and maybe they’ll turn the tide in our favor.

When we get to the house, our bags are piled in front of the porch with the others. There are four SUVs parked haphazardly on the driveway, and I watch as Callum’s group starts to fill them. Cade and the others are waiting with the bags.

“So we’re really doing this, huh?” Roux asks. I sense her nervousness.

I hold my breath, hoping like hell that they’re not having second thoughts after the attack.

“You know this is crazy, right?” Sawyer says.

“I’ve been accused of a lot worse,” I tell him, my words pointed.

“You have. It doesn’t change the fact that we’re walking into a situation without any real idea of what might happen. Which, in my book, makes us crazy. There are easier ways to die than facing the Order.”

“Is there a point to this little pep talk?” Jackson snaps.

“I’m trying to talk myself into believing that we’re not crazy for coming with you.”

“Staying here isn’t exactly an option anymore,” Tessa adds, glancing at the massacre we left behind.

“It seems we’re all on the crazy train,” Halle says.

I don’t even try to hide my relief. “I know it’s a risk.” I ignore Sawyer’s snort. “But I do trust Callum. I think he’s on our side.”

“Yeah, this is a pretty insane plan,” Cade mutters.

Wyatt shifts his shoulders, wincing as he does. “You say that as if we haven’t done crazy things in the past. Taking in Jackson when we found him was insane. You following Halle and trying to save her from the Order was also crazy. Us coming here was batshit, but here we are.”

My lip kicks up into the start of the smile, especially when Cade scowls at his cousin.

“This is a little different,” he counters. “We are walking into this without all the information we need.”

When he puts it like that, it does sound crazy, but I don’t see what other choice we have. We would have been taken or killed today if Callum’s group hadn’t been close by. Next time, the Order will send a bigger army after us.
