“Hey, Dante, wake up.” He stirred, opening his eyes and blinking a few times. “Look out the window. Isn’t that the Rocky Mountains?” Aurora asked, leaning back for him to peer around her at the view.

“Huh. Look at that,” Dante said, sounding bored and still half-asleep.

“Does the pilot know what he’s doing? Because he definitely overshot Chicago… by a lot.”

“Leo has been flying our planes for years, he knows what he’s doing. We’re right on track,” Dante said, patting her leg.

“Okay…” Aurora said slowly and with extreme skepticism.

“Trust me, babygirl,” Dante said.

“It’s just that… we’re flying over a mountain range that isn’t anywhere near Chicago,” she said this slowly, as if Dante was probably just a little slow and needed the extra help.

“Is that trusting me?” Dante said scoldingly.

Aurora couldn’t help but pout. “I just don’t understand why?—”

As if he could hear their conversation and wanted to weigh in, Leo’s voice came through the intercom. “We are about two hours out from our initial descent into Sacramento, California. The weather in Sacramento is currently sunny with a pleasant temperature of 75 degrees. The rest of the flight should be smooth, so sit back and relax.”

Aurora looked over at Dante again, and saw that he suddenly had the expression of a cat who’d just swallowed a canary.

“Sacramento?” Aurora asked, still trying to figure it out. “Did you need to make a business stop or something?”

“You could call it that. The business will take about four years.”

Aurora furrowed her eyebrows for a moment. And then it dawned on her.

“No!” was all she said.

“Yes,” Dante said with a grin.

“We’re going to California? To live? And I can go to UC Davis?” Aurora was bouncing up and down in her seat already.

“We’re not going to live there forever. But you worked hard to get into that program, and there’s no reason I can’t work from there for the next few years. It will give me a chance to expand the business there, secure some new contacts.”

Aurora squealed and yanked her seatbelt off, diving into Dante’s lap before throwing her arms around his neck. “Thank you, thank you, thank you!” she said as she peppered his face with kisses.

“You’re welcome, babygirl,” Dante said, putting one arm around her and using the other to hold her chin and make her look at him. “We’re going to talk about you trusting your husband and your pouty attitude when we get there.”

Aurora blushed bright pink, but her mind was swimming with so many questions her embarrassment didn’t last long.

“Where are we going to live?” she asked.

“That’s already been arranged. We have a townhouse right near campus,” he said. “And there is one more surprise.”

“What is it?”

“I should make you wait since you were so pouty earlier, but I spoil you,” Dante said before handing her his phone, which he’d already dialed.

Aurora stared at the screen in confusion—she still wasn’t used to the luxury of having cell phone service and unlimited Internet access in the air—until both Jackie and Missy’s grinning faces popped up.

“Oh!” Aurora jumped a little in Dante’s lap. “Oh my god, hi!”

“Did he tell you yet?” Missy asked.

“Tell me what? About California?” Aurora asked, looking at Dante and then back at the screen.

“Apparently your man pulled some strings and got us both into UC-Davis,” Jackie said before Missy stole the phone from her and turned it around to show Aurora an empty apartment. “We’re moving in right now! Isn’t it amazing? We’re like three minutes away from where you and Dante are going to live.”
