“Let them try.” I kissed her shoulder just before pressing my hand to the back of her head, forcing her onto her hands and knees. She smiled as she went down, even letting out a little laugh. Fuck—if she kept giggling like that, I’d be finished in no time.

I ripped open the condom as fast as I could. Its purpose was to contain the mess—the last thing I wanted to do was ruin that pretty dress for her. And Kendall didn’t complain as I pulled down my pants to slide it on. I pushed her dress up her back and took in the sight before me. Goddammit, her body was magnificent. Before I entered her, I had to get a little taste. I lowered myself, slowly licking the full length of her slit like she was some kind of dessert. There was nothing sweeter. I flicked my tongue against her clit, relishing in the way it made her squirm. I could have devoured her all night, but we needed to make this fast before we were caught. I grabbed her by the hips and slowly slipped the end of my cock inside of her. “Oh God, Mason,” she whined as I pushed all the way into her.

She felt amazing from that angle—and it gave me the best view, too. I hooked my hands onto her hips as I thrust again and again, the sound of skin clapping against skin echoing through the room. Kendall lowered herself onto her elbows, lifting her butt even higher for me. I gathered her hair into a ponytail in my fist and gave it a good tug, pulling her head backwards so I could see the look on her face as I fucked her. Kendall responded with a grin that nearly killed me. “Goddamn. When am I going to learn to stop calling you a good girl?”

Kendall closed her eyes with her face pressed into the brown leather, and I could tell from the way she moaned she was nearing completion. Which was a relief, because so was I.

I squeezed Kendall’s thighs as I thrusted faster. If anyone happened to be wandering the halls, they’d definitely hear the sounds of our passion—and that chaise lounge was rocking back and forth on the hardwood floor. When I slapped Kendall’s ass hard enough to leave behind a crimson handprint, she screamed in pleasure, turning her face against the leather. I could feel her clenching around my cock, and that was enough to send me over the edge right after her. I folded my trembling body over hers, pressing my chest against her back. “Fuck,” I whispered, sweat collecting along my brow. I wrapped one arm around Kendall’s torso, bringing my palm to the center of her chest. Her heart was pounding.

The words “I love you” were on the tip of my tongue, but this didn’t feel like the right time.

And then Kendall turned her head to look up at me, saying, “Will you hold me for a minute?”

As if she even needed to ask. I took a moment to clean up and zipped my pants back up before joining her on the chaise lounge, which was just wide enough to hold the two of us. I spooned her from behind, wrapping my arm around her waist. Kendall took my hand in hers, bringing it to her mouth to kiss my fingers. “I wish we could stay in here all night,” I said.

“People are probably wondering where we are.”

Some people probably knew. I didn’t express that concern aloud, however—there was no need to worry her. I just held her in silence for a few minutes, soaking in every bit of this moment—the smell of her hair, the way her body seemed to align perfectly with mine. The dim light from the single lamp on the other side of the room cast a soft glow on her face, and though she wasn’t smiling, she looked satisfied. I pressed a gentle kiss on her jaw. “You know, this is only the second weirdest place we’ve had sex.”

Kendall giggled, and I gave her a squeeze before sitting up. We would need to get back out to the dancefloor before people started getting suspicious. I brought her panties to her and watched in amusement at the way she shimmied them up her legs. “I’ll sneak out there first,” Kendall said. But before she could slip away, I grabbed her by the wrist and pulled her against me for one more kiss.

The second she was gone, I already missed her. I went into the bathroom to wash my face and took advantage of the complimentary bottle of mouthwash. Just as I was patting my chin dry, I heard the door open again. As I lowered the towel, I was disappointed to find Xander slithering into the room. He would have seen Kendall in the hallway—I just hoped he couldn’t discern which room she’d come from.

I attempted to nonchalantly pick up the condom wrapper from the floor without him noticing, but Xander watched me like a hawk as he fumbled with his coat. He pulled a vape pen from one of the pockets. “You want in on this?” he asked, throwing himself onto a regal-looking leather chair.

“I’m good.”

Xander shrugged. “Suit yourself.” I adjusted the sleeves of my untucked shirt, carefully rolling them up so I didn’t look like such a sloppy mess when I returned to the dancefloor. Before I could leave, however, Xander snapped his fingers and pointed at me. “I’ve got it.”

“Got what?”

“My next headline.”

I inhaled, knowing I wasn’t going to like whatever he had to say next. “Oh yeah? And what’s that?”

An arrogant grin spread across his face as he took a hit from the vape. He held one hand up in a dramatic manner and said, “‘Local teacher fucks student’s father at wedding.’”

I tried to maintain a calm demeanor, though I was panicking on the inside. Xander was definitely bluffing, but who knew what he could do with this information? I cleared my throat and attempted to regain my composure. “Are you open to critique?”

“Always.”

“Good,” I said, taking a step toward him. “Because I’ve got a better idea for that headline.”

“Well, let’s hear it, then.”

“How about something like, ‘local reporter rejected by teacher; student’s father predicted this months ago’?”

Xander made a face like he was giving this some consideration. “I don’t know,” he said, taking another hit from the pen. “It might be a little wordy.”

“I’ll work on it,” I retorted, sticking my hands in my pockets. Xander just stared at me, and it was all I could do not to punch the smug look off his stupid face. “But it’s true, isn’t it? And I know how important it is for you to maintain your journalistic integrity.”

“Hmm. My headline wasn’t a lie, though, was it?” he asked, studying his fingernails. He licked his lips and inhaled deeply. “Doesn’t smell like I’m wrong.”

My face felt warm. I couldn’t deny the way the smell of sex still lingered in the air.

“Besides,” Xander continued. “I think my buddies on the school board would be more interested in the one I came up with.”

Maybe he wasn’t bluffing after all. After being rejected by Kendall, who knew what he might do? And considering his evident dislike for me, I felt inclined to take him seriously. I swallowed. “As a journalist, you should know making accusations without evidence could tarnish your credibility. And we wouldn’t want that, would we? Who else would give us the scoop on the… Woodvale bridge league?”
