Mostly.

That’s the thing—every time I think ‘I have everything I could need or want’, there’s a niggle in the back of my mind that adds ‘almost’ or ‘not quite’.

I love Cam and Alexsei. I’m so happy with them. They are exactly who I need them to be. And I know they feel the same way.

But something’s missing.

No.

Someone is missing.

And now tonight I have to sit in this arena for the next two and a half to three hours with the Racketeers bench, and the coaching staff, right there.

I’ve avoided Owen successfully. There’s no reason for us to run into each other.

I’ve, of course, thought of him constantly. His son works for me. Alexsei goes to practice with him. I’m freaking in love with him. So no, I can’t escape the reminders and thoughts of him.

But I haven’t had to see him.

Now there’s no way for me not to see him.

I slide into the aisle, smiling at and hugging Dani and saying hi to Nathan. I respect that the owner of the team sits down here in the stands with the fans. He has a private box, and he’s entertained my parents there before games in the past, but Dani likes sitting down here, closer to the action, where Crew and Michael can more easily see her, and Nathan would rather be with her than away from the crowd.

“Hi, Dani,” Cam greets, giving her a wave.

“Hi, Cam.” She smiles at him.

He and Nathan shake hands and my heart squeezes.

I love that all of these people are mixing and getting along and it’s so easy to imagine dinner parties and celebrations all together for years to come.

“Hey everyone!”

I look up to find Brady and Lydia taking the seats right behind us. The one Cam used to sit in and the one beside it.

“Hi, guys,” I greet. I turn a questioning look on Dani.

She smiles and shrugs. “I know someone who can get me any tickets in here that I want.” She looks over her shoulder at Nathan. “And I think his prices are very fair.”

He leans in to say something in her ear that makes her blush and I just roll my eyes, but I’m grinning.

“I think Armstrong and I might share a love for tough negotiations,” Cam says huskily to me.

I look up at him. “You think so? I’ve actually found you pretty accommodating, for the most part.”

“You just haven’t asked me for anything I haven’t wanted to give you,” he says, running the tip of his finger down my cheek.

I let my voice drop a little lower and am gratified by the way his gaze goes to my mouth. “Oh really? How about the kiss I wanted that first night?”

There’s a flare of heat in his eyes and he leans in. “I gave you exactly what we both wanted, Pixie…you begging me.”

In that moment, I’m hit by the craziest mix of joy and love and rightness. I can so easily imagine being with this man and Alexsei forever.

“I love you,” I say, emphatically.

I can see I surprised him, but he smiles. “I love you, too.”

There’s a ripple in the crowd around us just then that distracts me from staring into Cam’s eyes.
