Though Luna does seem most comfortable around the house in one of our hoodies or T-shirts and not much underneath.

My cock twitches at the idea of having her all to ourselves, away from the bakery, away from our families—as much as we love them—and hopefully away from her phone for the next four days.

That includes being incommunicado with my son, too, who is in contact with Luna often, not just because she’s his boss but also because she’s his… pseudo-stepmom.

In fact, he calls her first for advice or to use her as a sounding board often before he talks to me or Chelsea.

Luna doesn't let him get away with things, exactly, but she is a little more chill about hearing problems and screw-ups. Which has made me a little more chill.

My heart squeezes as I think about Luna’s relationship with Brady. She fits into the role of friend and advisor perfectly. Hell, she fits into everything perfectly. She and Chelsea have become friends. Amara thinks she’s amazing—helped in part by the fact that Luna can turn a simple cake into almost anything, a challenge Amara has put to her half a dozen times and one that Luna has crushed every time. Dev thinks she’s charming and delightful. My parents and sisters love her.

Chelsea, Dev, Amara, and everyone else in my life also love Alexsei and Cam.

The life that Luna, Alexsei, Cam, and I have figured out is damn near perfect. It’s like four puzzle pieces have come together and locked into place as soon as we turned them the right way.

We all have a role, and we can all depend on the other three to fill in where we can’t.

I have to admit that looking forward to this coming hockey season is easier knowing that when I’m on the road, I’ll have one of my best friends there with me, and Cam will be at home with my girl and for my son if Brady needs anything.

“This isn’t what I was expecting,” Cam tells me, meeting me in front of the bumper.

A gust of wind blows past and a creaking sound pulls my attention to the roof of the cabin—where a large tree branch is resting on one corner.

Fuck. This plan is definitely going off track.

“It's been five years since I was here, and I was admittedly pretty drunk for a big portion of the last trip, but I do not recall the cabin looking like this,” I admit.

Even drunk, I would have remembered a sagging front porch that I'm afraid to step on, a tree resting on the roof, and a boarded-up front window.

“Mark said he hadn’t been up here in a couple years and the guy who takes care of it for him quit, though, right?” Cam reminds me.

My buddy Mark had no problem with us using the cabin for a few days, but he had warned me he hadn’t seen it in a while.

“Yeah.” I grimace. “But…fuck.” I scrub a hand over my face. “I can fix a lot of shit, but this is a little beyond what I can do by tonight.”

Mark had inherited this fishing cabin from his uncle years ago and we used to do guy trips annually with some other friends. They were always a ton of fun and exactly what I needed as a getaway before the hockey season started each year. But I hadn’t been picky about the four walls and roof for those trips.

This one is different.

When Alexsei and I told Cam that the four of us should take a vacation before Alexsei and I were wrapped up in the chaos of another hockey season, getting away to a remote cabin all to ourselves had sounded great to all three of us. Making it a surprise trip for Luna had sounded even better.

My phone dings with a text. Cam’s does at the same time.

We immediately know it’s either Alexsei or Luna since we have a group chat.

Or it could be Brady, I suppose.

Or just Alexsei.

I’m actually in three group chats. One that includes the bigger family—i.e., Brady—one that’s just the four of us, and one that’s just us three guys. That one’s for making plans like this weekend or for sending messages like, “she had a shitty day, someone needs to grab tacos. Who will be home first?”

We have to be careful when we’re texting dirty stuff to get the right one, too. So far no one’s screwed up and included Brady, but I’ve almost hit send a couple of times before realizing I’m in the wrong one.

I pull out my phone.

It’s the group chat with just the three of us.

There’s a text from Alexsei.
