That’s good.

When he had lunch with yet another unfamiliar face on Thursday, that should put an end to any rumors about Utah.

He got on an elevator with Sylvia, and it was all he could do not to press the button for the second floor instead of the sixth.

I get to go home with her, he reminded himself for the tenth time that day.

Stepping off the elevator on the admin floor, he pulled his phone out and fired off a text as he walked toward his office.

Liam: My pleasure, baby. I hope you enjoyed it. Thank you for getting up early today.

She responded immediately.

Honeybee: You already thanked me in the shower.

She included a winking emoji, and he could almost hear her voice say the words. She was too damn adorable.

He was in trouble.

He sent her a text to tell her he had a meeting at four o’clock that he didn’t know how long would run and suggested she take an Uber home.

She was hoping for a repeat of yesterday’s rendezvous in his office when he’d been on his call, so she sent him a flirtatious reply.

Utah: I don’t mind waiting. I can come up and keep you company?

Liam: Sorry, baby. It’s in-person with the department heads. Let me know if you decide to stay, and I’ll text you when I’m done.

Excitement zinged through her body at the thought of being able to go to his office, and she returned to the task she was working on.

She snuck another glance at the clock.

4:36.

How had only five minutes gone by since the last time she’d looked at the clock? It was going to be a long couple of hours.

Fortunately, she was able to get absorbed in her work again and jumped when her vibrating phone rattled on her desk. She eagerly flipped it over to look at the screen.

Liam: Are you almost ready, honeybee?

Utah: I can be in your office in five minutes.

Liam: No need. I’ll be in the car. Pick you up at the elevators.

She shut her computer down and gathered her things. She was surprised he wanted to leave already. They’d only been at the hospital eleven hours.

His Mercedes was in view when she stepped out of the elevator into the parking garage, and he pulled up to let her in.

“Hi!” she said brightly as she slid into the passenger seat.

He leaned over and kissed her cheek. “Hi, baby. How was your day?”

“It was good. Busy. Other than to stop and eat lunch—thank you again for that, by the way,—I didn’t stop.”

“Wow. I don’t know if it’s a good thing or a bad thing you’re so busy, but I’m glad you enjoyed lunch.”
