“Appointmentsss?” She drew the “s” out. “As in plural?”

“Hair, nails, and makeup.”

“At Bella? With this short notice? I’m impressed.”

“I told you Kathy could get you in anywhere.”

She suspected it was Liam’s credentials that got her in, but potato, potahto.

“Are you sure you don’t want to see my dress? I feel like if you went to the trouble to get me all those appointments, it’s a big deal that I look perfect tomorrow night.”

“You are perfect, baby; I’m sure I’m going to love your dress. I just wanted to do something to spoil you. Of course, that’s when you were being a good girl.”

“Aw, thank you, Sir,” she said as she reached for her glass of water. “I learned my lesson.”

“Don’t thank me too soon. You have another punishment coming tomorrow night.”

She set the cup on the table with a thud.

“Another one? Why?”

“Does a twenty-dollar pizza tip ring any bells?”

“I don’t think my bottom can take another spanking.”

“It’s not a spanking. I planned this yesterday, before today’s events.”

“Oh.”

He winked at her. “You won’t hate it, I promise.”

“Ohhh.”

“And we’re staying at the hotel tomorrow night, so pack an overnight bag. Cindy is going to stay here in one of the guest rooms to watch Phoebe.”

“Speaking of guest rooms, I still need to move my things out of your closet into one of them. Do you have more punishments planned for me this weekend, or will I have time to do that before Monday?”

He chuckled as he shook his head. “You just can’t help being sassy, can you?”

“I’ve been trying to explain that to you all week…. Good grief, at this rate, I’m going to be paying off my punishments until I’m eighty.”

That made him laugh. Then he threw a wet blanket on things when he commented, “I wonder if your husband will mind if you come over to serve your punishment.”

She mustered up a fake smile. “Probably. At least I hope he would.”

“Yeah”—he looked pensive as he stared at her—“I know there’s no way I could ever share you.”

A problem for another day.

Chapter Forty-Five

Liam

The admin team meeting would have gone on for another hour, had Liam not cut off Nancy Gilbert, the head of nursing when she started on a tangent about the shortage of nurses.

Every department had a shortage, right down to the parking lot attendants.

“I’m going to stop you right there. Parker’s awards ceremony is in”—he glanced at the watch on his wrist—“ninety minutes.”
