“I think we both know what this means, Ms. Douglas.”

She drooped her shoulders in defeat.

“I do. Thank you for your time.”

At least she hadn’t signed the lease yet or given them any money.

The woman walked away, and Utah wheeled around to glare at Liam.

“What the hell did you do? There’s no way I’m going to be able to find an apartment before the end of the month, now.”

He shrugged unapologetically and leaned down to pick up Phoebe.

“I guess that means you’ll just have to live with us. Forever.”

“Liam…”

With his free hand, he grabbed hers.

“Honeybee, I will do whatever it takes to keep you. You want to get knocked up? I’ll take you home right now and put a baby in you.”

She fought back a smile. “It doesn’t quite work that way…”

“You know what I mean. I never imagined I would settle down until you came into my life. Now, that’s all I can think about. If you want a family—I’m the guy to have it with. I will take care of you and our germ carriers.”

“Okay, first of all, you can’t call them that. And I don’t want you to do something you don’t want to do, Liam. You’ll only end up resenting me.”

“Little bee, it’s not that I don’t want kids, I just didn’t see how it could work. I work too damn much. I thought I’d be a shitty dad.”

“So, what’s changed?”

“Parker. My dad.”

“You talked to your dad about this?”

“No, but he was an amazing dad when I was growing up. I had the best example, so I know what it takes to be a good dad. I just didn’t think I was capable.”

“So why do you think you’re capable now?”

“I talked to Parker.”

“You’re talking in circles, Liam. What could Parker have possibly said to make you change your mind? You were pretty adamant.”

“Okay, first of all…,” he was obviously mocking her earlier reprimand about him calling kids germ carriers. “It’s still Sir or My Liege, at least until the thirtieth. And as far as what Parker said to me, he told me to quit my job. So, I did.”

She jerked her hand free and planted it on her hip.

“You did not quit your job! Please tell me you’re kidding. Oh my god, of course you’re going to resent me!”

He chuckled and reached for her hand.

“Calm down. Vicki wouldn’t accept my resignation. In fact, she wants to hire you. To do what you’ve been doing, only with a salary and benefits this time.”

She closed her eyes tight and shook her head, trying to make sense of what was happening. “What?”

“You don’t have to take it. It’s just an option. But if you do decide to work there, we’re not hiding our relationship.”

“Time out. I’m still trying to wrap my head around your change of heart about having kids.”
