“They’ll like you.”

“Yeah? You think?”

“Yeah. You make me happy.”

“That makes two of us, little honeybee.”

She yanked her head back and looked at him with narrowed eyes.

“Are you saying you won’t meet my family unless I wear your collar again all the time?”

“What? Of course not, baby! Where on earth did you get that?”

She gave him a pointed look and said slower this time. “Are you saying, if I don’t agree to being owned by you, you refuse to let me introduce you to my family?”

It finally dawned on him what she was asking.

“Yes. Yes, that’s exactly what I’m saying. If you want to introduce me to your family, you better be wearing my collar when you do.”

She shrugged. “I guess if I don’t have a choice.... That probably means the rules are back in place.”

He felt the corner of his mouth tug up. “Absolutely.”

She pulled the Honda Civic up to the curb at Boston Logan International, and her older brother opened the rear passenger door and tossed his duffel bag in the back, then got in the front seat.

“Hey, little sister!” Phoenix greeted her with a bright smile as he closed his door.

“Hi!” She leaned across the console with her seatbelt still on and gave him an awkward hug. “How was your flight?”

He slid his seat back, stretched his legs out, and fastened his seatbelt. “Long. How’s Dad?”

“He’s weak, but he’s lucid, so that’s good news.”

“So, was Dakota’s boyfriend really the one who operated on him?”

“Denver needs to get his facts straight before he goes running his mouth. She and Aiden broke up in January.”

“I don’t know, Denver said it was obvious there’s something going on between them.”

“Well, he’s not wrong. I think Dakota’s still in love with him, and the way he looks at her, he clearly feels something, too. But he said something about having to reschedule his Valentine’s date last night, so I don’t know what’s going on.”

“And is it true that Denver is dating a single mom?”

“Good grief, how do you know all the gossip when you live three thousand miles away?”

“My other siblings call me and tell me things. Except you. You don’t tell me shit.”

“I’m not privy to Denver’s love life, and it’s Dakota’s story to tell, not mine.”

“I’m not talking about Dakota or Denver—I’m talking about you. What’s this I hear you’re living with someone?”

“Dakota has a big mouth,” Utah grumbled.

“She didn’t tell me to be malicious. She’s happy for you. I think she thought he might come with you to pick me up, so she was preparing me to make sure I wasn’t surprised.”
