Still, he shrugged, like it made no difference to him.
“You’re welcome to have your lawyer negotiate the terms of the agreement.”
“Well, if I’m not allowed to have any other clients for six months, I wouldn’t really have any money to go anywhere else, now would I?”
“Again. Your lawyer can counter the deal. Or you can just reject it outright and take your chances at trial.”
He had her over a barrel, and she knew it. Still, her feistiness came out.
“I don’t think fucking you can legally be part of any agreement.”
“No, not technically. But since I’ll be the one in contact with your probation officer, I guess if I say you’re not following the terms of the agreement—”
“And what are your terms of my house arrest?”
“On or off the record?”
Instead of answering his question, she let out a defeated sigh. “What do you want from me, Liam?”
“Well, for starters, I want to know why you ghosted me.”
Her shoulders drooped, and she murmured softly, “You know why.”
“I have an idea, but I want to hear it from you.”
She only paused for a second before replying, “When I found out you’re Boston General’s CEO, I panicked.”
“You didn’t know that from the start?”
“No. I didn’t know until you told me the day I left.”
That made him feel a little better to know she hadn’t purposefully targeted him.
He nodded thoughtfully. “Okay.”
“What else?”
He cocked his head. “What do you mean?”
“What are your other ‘unofficial’ terms? I need to know what I’d be agreeing to.”
She made air quotes with her fingers when she said unofficial.
“You’ll help with Phoebe.”
Without hesitation, she replied, “Of course.”
“We’ll have dinner and breakfast together, like we did when you stayed at my house last month.”
Her smile suggested that memory was a fond one.
“Okay. I liked eating with you; that wouldn’t be a hardship.”
“On the days you go into the hospital, we’ll ride together.”
“I guess that makes sense.”
“Which means, you may have to wait in my office until I’m ready to leave.”
