“Am I going to be allowed to have a phone?”

“I don’t see why not.”

“Then I could just read or surf the internet while I wait.”

“And you’ll cater to my every desire.”

He said it as casually as if he were saying she’d be in charge of the nightly dishes.

Her mouth dropped open, but no words came out—like she was at a loss for how to respond.

Finally, she softly uttered, “I would be okay with that.”

His heart rate sped up at her admission, but he purposefully kept his expression stern when he replied, “I should clarify. My every kinky desire.”

“Um… how kinky are we talking here?”

He shrugged. “I guess you’ll have to wait and see.”

“And if I refuse?”

“You can always say no, but then I can always tell your probation officer it’s not working out.”

He wanted her to sweat, but he also didn’t want her so worried that she refused the deal. So, he offered her a reassuring wink. “You already spent a weekend with me, little bee. You know I’m not a monster. I’m just a little more perverted than I showed you. And a lot bossier.”

She pulled her bottom lip between her teeth like she was either nervous or contemplating, so he added, “I would never hurt you.” A small grin escaped him. “Unless you asked me to.”

Her left eyebrow hiked as she looked at him defiantly. “You never know, I just might.”

His dick jumped. Oh, he was going to enjoy this.

He pulled the agreement out of the file folder and slid it in front of her.

“Go over this with your lawyer, darlin’,” he said as he stood up. “This offer expires at midnight tonight.”

Utah was quiet until he reached the door, then she murmured, “Liam?”

He turned around to find her looking at him.

“For what it’s worth—I am sorry for how things affected you.”

He appreciated that.

“But you’re not sorry for doing it.”

She didn’t hesitate when she replied, “No, I’m not.”

He felt the corner of his mouth hike up. “Not yet anyway.”

Chapter Twenty

Liam

He was in his car, driving back to the hospital from the jail, when his phone rang. Clicking a button on his steering wheel, he said, “Hello,” into the air of the cabin of the Mercedes.

“Liam, it’s Jerry Collins. I just heard back from Ms. Douglas’s attorney. They’ve countered.”

Well, that was fast.
