“What are they suggesting?”

“She’s willing to do nine months pro bono in exchange for no house arrest and dropping the condition that she can’t have other clients. And she wants the charge reduced to a misdemeanor once her sentence is served.”

She didn’t want to live with him? That news hurt more than it should.

“No house arrest?”

“She’ll move into her own place and wear an ankle monitor.”

That wasn’t going to work.

“No. I’ll agree to four months house arrest. The reduction in charge is fine, but I want to add a non-compete clause that when she’s done, she can’t work for our competition for five years.”

“I think that’s reasonable.”

“I also want final approval where she moves to once her house arrest is over.”

He didn’t want her moving into a dump just to get away from him.

“I have to say, Liam, your request to have her live with you is rather unorthodox.”

“I know. But you know her probation officer isn’t going to be keeping tabs on her—he has much bigger fish to fry. This way I know where she is, and that she isn’t hacking my hospital’s system again. Plus, I’d like her help with Phoebe, my dog she delivered to me from the Animal Rescue Foundation. Phoebe is familiar with her. Utah knows my house is plenty big enough for two people.”

Not that she’ll be sleeping anywhere but my bed.

Liam was taken aback that she wasn’t willing to live with him. Maybe he’d scared her with the whole “catering to my every desire” thing.

Jerry responded, “I’ll come back with four months and see what they say.”

“If they come back with anything less than four months, I’m not interested. You can take it to trial.”

He knew Jerry had no desire to prepare for a trial. From everything Liam had learned about the prosecutor, the man was the king of plea bargains, so he felt confident Jerry would make the deal happen.

“I’ll get back to you,” the attorney said before clicking off.

“You do that,” Liam said with a chuckle to the dead air.

He’d just parked his car in the hospital garage when he received a text.

Jerry Collins: They agreed to four months house arrest and hospital pro-bono work with no outside clients during that time, and a non-compete clause. The judge just needs to sign off on it the day after tomorrow, then she should be released as soon as she’s processed.

Liam: What time is her court appearance?

Jerry Collins: Ten a.m.

Liam: I’ll see you then.

He needed to finish up with work, so he could get home and make room in his closet and take care of some things.

For the first time since he moved out of his parents’ house, he was about to live with a woman. There’d been a few girlfriends he’d gotten close to making the leap with, but when it came time, he never could pull the trigger. Oddly enough, right now the only thing he felt was excitement.

Maybe it was because he knew there was a four-month end date.

Or maybe it was because of the woman who was moving in, and why.
