“Buuuut?”

“But just because you explained it doesn’t mean I like it.”

Her lips twitched as she continued to stare at the menu board. Even though there was no one within earshot, she dropped her voice. “Then I guess it’s a good thing I’m making it up to you by catering to your every kinky desire.”

His dick jumped, and not for the first time today since seeing her.

“Why do I get the feeling this penance isn’t going to be a hardship?”

“Because it’s not.”

Before he could come up with a witty reply, the young woman behind the counter called out, “Are you ready to order?”

Utah stepped forward and ordered a double cheeseburger, fries, chocolate shake, and a Diet Coke.

He ordered the same, minus the shake. “I’ll get a Waffle Sundae after lunch.”

“Oooh, that sounds good.”

She wasn’t kidding about being hungry.

“Did they not feed you while you were in there?” he teased as they found a table.

“Have you ever had jail food?”

“Can’t say that I have.”

“Imagine the worst cafeteria meal you ever had in middle school… and quadruple the grossness. That’s jail food.”

“I guess it’s an acquired taste.”

“I suppose. But thanks to you, I don’t have to acquire it.”

He was glad about that. He couldn’t imagine her having to eat gruel every day. And truth be told, he liked that she recognized he was the reason she didn’t have to.

“Just because you’re sucking up to me, doesn’t mean I’m going to go easy on you.”

“Oh, I don’t think that at all. On the contrary, if I thought that, I’d probably be insulting you right now.” She stared him dead in the eye when she told him. “Do your worst.”

He felt the corner of his mouth lift when he leaned forward over the table. “Don’t worry, little bee. I plan to.”

Utah

Do not show fear! Do not show fear!

She hoped he couldn’t see the pulse in her neck, because it was going a mile a minute. Grabbing her drink, she sucked down some Diet Coke while trying to act unaffected.

The smirk on his face told her he wasn’t buying it.

Why did she have to go and mouth off and tell him to do his worst?

Utah placed her soda on the table and traced the condensation along the outside of the glass. “So, what do you have in store for me?”

Liam studied her as he took a sip of his soda. He took his time putting the glass down, then said, “You’ll find out soon enough.”

She was excited, curious, nervous, and scared—all rolled into one ball of energy sitting in the center of her stomach. That cheeseburger she’d been dying for suddenly didn’t seem as appetizing.
