Then I’ll cross the bridge of reasoning when I need to think about everything else.

Chapter 24

Luna

It's time.

The night of the fundraiser is finally here.

The auction is scheduled to start in twenty minutes and the hall is already filled up.

I take great pride that I was able to book the Astoria for this event.

The people and their families who are members of the association receive their membership on the merit of their net worth, connections, and power.

I got access through my father, so holding tonight's event here is a dream come true.

Everyone is dressed in their finest, looking like they're ready for a red-carpet walk.

And as always, I love admiring the interior decor of the place. It's beautiful with its high ceilings, marble floors, and paintings that are worth a fortune.

We have the biggest hall, which has an auditorium-style layout of chairs and a stage. All perfect for the wine auction.

I’m standing behind the red velvet curtain like The Wizard of Oz, pulling the strings and watching everything unfold before me, but soon, I'll be on center stage auctioning off some of the world's most valuable wine collections.

"Hey, girl.” Emily’s voice takes my focus away from the guests entering hall.

I turn to greet her, hoping that my two-day afterglow has calmed.

I didn't get to see Hunter before he left, but we've spoken to each other on the phone several times. I congratulated him on getting the CEO position, and he wished me good luck for tonight.

It was nice speaking with him. However, every time I talk to him or even think about him, my face starts glowing as if it's covered in starlight.

Emily rushes toward me and gives me a hug.

“You look amazing,” I compliment her, looking over her black gown. It’s a similar style to mine with the A-line cut, but mine is red and shorter.

“Thank you, thank you,” she says in her best announcer voice. She then gives me a little twirl and holds out her hands. “And you look great, too, my beautiful cousin."

"Thanks.”

"How was the weekend?" Her face brightens. "Please tell me you and Hunter had a great time."

I press my lips together and inhale slowly, doing my best not to show just how great the weekend was, but I fail as a blush heats my cheeks.

Of course, nothing gets past Emily, so she notices and smiles so wide I can see her back teeth.

"Oh my God. Look at you. You're glowing." She clasps her hands. "The weekend was that good?"

"Yes, it was."

She squeals with delight as if someone just handed her a juicy piece of news. I suppose this could be considered such, and for once, that someone is me.

"I told you this would work out, and see, it has." She laughs heartily, waving her perfectly manicured fingernails.

I nod, agreeing, but part of me is still trying so hard to be careful when it comes to Hunter.

It's getting harder and harder every time we're together.
