Now that we're married, it's even more difficult. I know better than to allow my heart to take the lead and push me onto a unsteady path I won't know how to travel. But how do I stop myself from feeling the way I do about him?

“I’ll bet you can’t wait to see him again,” she bubbles.

“I’m counting down the days.” I can’t believe I just said that. It’s so strange to hear those words coming out of my mouth considering what we’ve been through over the last couple of weeks.

I never thought the day would come when I’d be counting down the hours, minutes, and seconds until I see my husband.

Emily places her hands on my shoulders and gives me a pensive stare. "Enjoy it, Luna," she says. "Just enjoy it. There's no need to be looking for things to go wrong when everything is going so well. Okay?”

I take in a deep breath. "You're right."

She releases me. "Yes I am. And look at this place. This is such an achievement. I can't believe we're at the Astoria."

I smile again. "Yes, me neither. I just wish everyone else were here."

I was sad last night when I told Hunter that apart from Emily, no one else in my family would be joining me for tonight's event, but it really hit hard today.

"Don't worry about that. I’m here.” Emily tries to sound cheerful, but I know she gets what I mean. Then she glances over my shoulder, and her smile wilts. "Ryan's here, too," she adds, in an offbeat tone.

I look around and find him approaching us. When he spots me looking at him, he smiles, but he looks different to the boy I once knew.

That’s understandable. How can he look happy when I just got married to another man? And Ryan wasn't even at the wedding.

"Hello, ladies," he greets us. "You both look beautiful."

"Thank you," Emily and I both say at the same time, so we turn and smile at each other.

"Good to see you, Ryan. I'll leave you two to talk," Emily says, then she looks back at me. “See you in a little while.”

“Sure,” I reply, and she strolls away.

I return my focus to Ryan. He seems less tense now that the ice has been broken.

"First of all, congratulations on your wedding," he says.

"Thank you. That means a lot to hear you say that."

"I know. I also got this for you." He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a gift card.

I take it and smile when I see what's on it. It's a date for two at the ice cream parlor in Manhattan.

"This is so sweet of you." I smile up at him.

"I thought I'd get you something no one else would think of. I don't know if ice cream is the Shark's thing, but you never know. Maybe he'll go for you."

I appreciate the sentiment and I’m grateful he's trying to be okay with the situation.

"Thank you, Ryan. I'll make sure we enjoy this."

"Good. You look happy, Luna. That's a real good thing."

“I am happy.”

He nods and something that looks like acceptance fills his eyes.

"I want you to be happy, too, Ryan."

He nods again. "Don't worry about me. I have a way of landing on my feet. Anyway..." He pauses for a beat as if to signal the subject change, then he looks around. "This all looks seriously amazing."
