After she eventually fell asleep it took me a while to drift off too.

Now that I’m awake my thoughts have returned to the question of what’s next.

Where will we go from here?

And what will become of the strange thing between us that seems to have awakened the night we first met?

Maybe that's the cause of my fascination with her.

We met in the most unexpected of ways. Like a fluke of sorts, or a freak of nature. Now I'm stuck with a memory of Luna’s perfect naked body and I can't deny that I want to see it again.

As if sensing my lustful thoughts she stirs, but she doesn't wake.

The poor princess is probably so tired the sandman is keeping her in a deep slumber. But knowing her for the little time I have, I’m sure she’s fighting him too, trying desperately to get back to the world of the living to inform me I’ll never get to see her naked again.

I shouldn’t want that and I know I lost my damn mind last night when I stripped in front of her and offered to fuck her.

It may have been fun watching her squirm but that aside, losing my focus around her is not good. This isn’t the type of situation where I should entertain such weaknesses, nor my attraction to her.

Apart from her irritating-as-fuck fascination with Ryan—which bothers me more than I’m willing to admit—I don't want to lose my head to my enemy's daughter.

Regardless of what I become to her or the attraction she feels toward me, Luna will always give her first allegiance to her father.

Her love for her father will make her do anything for him regardless of her dreams. Everything she's done so far has been for him, not herself.

She's fulfilling that allegiance now just by being here in my bed.

I'm sure he probably sold her some story about helping his campaign and their family through her marriage to me. So she's here out of duty. Nothing more.

You can't trust people like that. They will always be loyal to the person to whom they swore their duty.

My phone buzzes with a message. I’m expecting Luc to contact me.

I grab my phone and confirm it’s him. He's here on the boat waiting for me.

I have a half day today, so I'm free until lunchtime. As the two of us have been so busy, we've hardly seen each other. During the hockey off-season we usually go sailing every weekend. Sometimes Asher joins us, but mostly we do it on our own.

Now that Luc is married that’s already changed. I guess things will change even more now that I'm about to take my own vows.

Today, we're going to do some maintenance work on the boat then take it out for a few hours.

The time away from work and life will be a welcome break. I also like hanging out with Luc.

Asher might be my brother but Luc and I share a lot of similarities that come from being closer in age. I also feel a little off with the marriage situation because I got more freedom than Asher with my choice of wife. It’s clear the contract is going to fuck up his life and I don’t like that there’s nothing I can do about it.

I put out my cigar, take one last look at the beauty in my bed, then leave the room. I head downstairs and leave through the back to get to the boat quicker. When I step outside I see Luc on the boat, standing by the big white sails.

He waves me over and I quicken my steps.

“Hey, Captain,” he greets me when I reach.

“Hey, yourself. I'm surprised you managed to pull yourself away from your wife to hang out with me.”

Luc laughs. “Thought you might need me more today. You look like hell.”

“Why, thank you.” I know he’s most likely right but I grin back at him and make a show of flipping him off, which he just laughs at even more.

I climb onboard and Luc points to two large coffee cups he's set out on the little table next to the padded seats. “Paige packed some food for later but I thought we needed some good coffee to kickstart the day.”
