I fought Ryan and stepped outside my rules for the simple fact that I wanted Luna for myself. Not just because of the contract.

Obsession pushed me down the rabbit hole and made her mine, but now I’m caught in a war with myself. The same war that was brewing the moment we met and in the circumstances of our meeting.

The warning to stay focused on the end goal came with Jericho’s findings but by then it was too late for me. Now it’s even later.

When the sun finally came up the other morning and I had to tear myself away from Luna, reality came, too.

There are three days until the wedding and I’m at the what should I do stage.

That’s why I haven’t called her. Not even to joke around and tell her I’m alive.

I haven’t called because I didn’t know what to say and I need to figure things out before I next see her.

I look at the coffee table next to me and scan over the copy of the newspaper Asher handed me on the plane.

On the front page is a picture of Luna and me kissing at the engagement party.

The first glimpse of our new favorite couple…

That’s the headline.

Usually the press are taken with me because of my devilish ways, but Luna has changed that with her angelic presence.

It’s not hard to see why. In this picture we look like a couple in love.

While we kiss, I have my hand cupping her beautiful face and she’s pressed against my chest. We look like a walking advert for a wedding magazine.

The picture tells me I can’t go back, but what it doesn’t tell me is how I move forward. Or even if I can.

All we had was one night. I shouldn’t think anything of it, especially because her loyalty is to her father.

She will never be on my side. With that in mind, the right thing to do is fall back.

The door opens and Asher walks in carrying a bag of takeout. The sight of him is a welcome break from my thoughts.

He left after our meetings to get a feast, as he called it, because we hadn’t eaten properly since the other day. Judging from the size of the bag in his hand, I can tell he went all out.

“Hey, bro, I got everything on the menu.” He chuckles, making his way over to the kitchen island.

“Did you really?” I smirk.

“Yes. I can’t wait for this to be over.”

“Me too.”

We have tomorrow morning then we’ll be done with the international traveling for a few months.

That said, tomorrow, we’ll be on a plane again for another long-haul flight as we travel back for the wedding. I’ll hardly have a chance to breathe before I have to be at the venue waiting for my bride.

I join Asher and watch him unpack the food on the counter, laying out an assortment of my favorite things.

We sit opposite each other on the high stools and start eating.

“So, I had an interesting call while I was out.” Asher allows his chopsticks to dangle between his fingers. From the way he looks it sounds like he got news of more trouble.

“What’s happening now?”

“I think Priscilla is cheating on me.”
