My brows knit and I straighten. “Are you serious?”

“As fuck. I got a PI to watch her. He said he saw her meeting some guy upstate. She hugged him and they nearly kissed. He said they seemed couple-y.”

“Did he get proof of anything else?”

“Not yet, but this was what I suspected. This was the very reason why I thought she was trying to make things seem okay between us.”

Just when I thought we had a handle on the situation, more shit had to happen.

“What are you going to do?”

“I’m not sure yet. Cheating doesn’t seem to be part of any of the exemptions that would break the marriage contract. Although I can’t imagine why. It makes me think Grandfather had his head in the clouds when he drew up his terms.”

I agree but say nothing. As conflicting and confusing as my situation is, it’s still better than his.

I would despise such a situation. Being forced to marry a woman who’s cheating on you before you even make it to the church is not ideal in anyone’s books.

“I think you should speak to Father,” I suggest.

“I will. I just want some hardcore evidence first. I don’t know where it will get me but there’s no way I’ll allow that family to get any part of our fortune if she’s screwing other people. It’s not like losing the business from their family will be any great loss.”

“I’m sure we’d manage.”

Priscilla’s family owns a lot of real estate, but the ownership is tied up with our wealth. Grandfather helped them start their business because Priscilla’s grandfather was his best friend. The idea was to form the union to keep the wealth between our families.

“I’ll figure something out.”

“Let me know if I can do anything.”

“Don’t worry about me, you have enough on your plate. Have you cooled off yet?” He’s talking about the fight with Ryan.

“Is it my turn now?” I grin back at him.

“Just want to make sure you’re okay heading home tomorrow.”

“I’ve cooled off.”

A cunning smile brightens his face as he picks up a chunk of chicken with his chopsticks. “I hope so. I hear it’s bad luck to get married angry. It’s the same as going to bed in a fit of rage.”

Wordlessly, I stare back at him. I’m not the sort to bed and tell, so he doesn’t officially know what transpired between Luna and me, but he knows.

Asher is my brother so he tends to know most things without being told.

“I’m fine, Asher.”

“So no more beating the living shit out of soldier boy for trying to take your woman?”

Sometimes his flair for being so blatant is unnerving.

“No. Like I said, I’ve cooled off.”

He laughs off key. “I don’t know who you’re trying to fool but it’s not me.”

This is the first time we’re speaking about the fight. Father has also done me the courtesy of not mentioning it. The only thing he did was ask me if I was okay, but I knew he wasn’t happy that I conducted myself in that way.

Ryan started it, but that’s not the point. Also, although I know I shouldn’t have gotten into a fight at my own engagement party with all the Le Blanche Global investors present, I would do the same goddamn thing again.

“You fought like you were going to kill soldier boy. I almost thought you had. My guess is that this girl has become more valuable to you than you planned.”
