I lean towards her ear to whisper, “What I did wasn’t teasing. It was edging. Of course, if we were somewhere else, I would have fucked you with my fingers sliding in and out of you and my mouth on your breasts, but I’ll have to settle for this.”

Harper gulps visibly as a shiver runs down her spine.

“Are you two coming or not?” Mira calls out.

“I guess that’s all the time we have for today,” I smile as I move back to see Harper’s face.

Ripened tomatoes, as expected.

“I’ll let you in on a little secret, though,” I whisper, “If we had left, I wouldn’t have lasted long. I would—because I want to pleasure you—but it would have taken everything from me. That is the effect you have on me.”

With that, I walk off while my hands stylishly cover my crotch, and I recite numbers backward in my head to deflate my boner.

“I thought you two ditched us,” Caleb says.

You don’t know how close we came to doing that. I glance over at Harper and see her shoulders rise and fall as she stands beside Mira—evidence of unreleased tension. I guess we will have to wait to deal with that until she decides that it can happen again.

In the meantime, I plan to have as much fun as possible.

“You like Harper Quinn?” Caleb asks as we enter the car hours later.

Harper, and I’m guessing it’s to avoid me, decides to ride with Mira. Since Caleb couldn’t argue with his girlfriend, he bullied me into taking him home.

“What makes you think so?” I don’t deny it, but I want to know his observations.

Caleb grins as he looks at me. “You thought we weren’t looking, but Mira and I saw you two. Looking all cozy by the vending machine.”

I bet you didn’t see everything. I wonder what he would have thought if he knew what we were really doing there.

“So,” he says, “what is the next step? Are you guys going to start dating? I have to admit, I like the thought of going on double dates with my best friend.”

I snort loudly. “Double dates? I never said I liked Harper in that way, and you’re jumping the gun.”

“How do you like her, then?”

In a way that leaves me entranced when she smiles and also makes my blood run hot when I think about making love to her.

I shrug.

“I don’t know. I guess she’s not as stubborn as I thought. I’m not saying we work well together now, but Harper Quinn doesn’t make me want to pull my hair out anymore.”

Caleb laughs as he slaps his hand on his knee. “You, my friend, are a master at downplaying things. I won’t push for the truth, though, because it will come out in its own time. The one thing I am sure of is that you have met your match, and that makes me happy.”

“I can’t wait to see what happens,” he continues.

For some reason, I find myself impatient too. Not just for the moment when Harper finally accepts that we are amazing in bed…but impatient about her in general. I want to see her at work, hear her thoughts, and watch her bowl.

Chapter 11

Harper

"You don’t need to compliment me, you know,” I say with pride, sitting in front of Gabriel.

After the impressive presentation I just gave, I expect him to break out in applause and say something along the lines of, you’re invaluable to this company, but I’m not one to toot my own horn.

He shrugs. “I wasn’t going to.”
