Page 74 of The Bratva's Beast

There was nothing but barren desert for hundreds of miles, and I'd already stuck a tracker onto his back. So, he wasn't getting away. But it was riveting to give him that moment of false hope only to know that I would be taking it away in less than thirty minutes.

Picking up my rifle, I slowly leave to the guard tower outside for the vantage point. As I made my way there, I called up my brother, Arseny. "I'm going to send you a list of names, and I want everything on every single one of those names. I also want you to put out word to our men and forces to not touch any of those men on the list. They are mine and Hanna's to kill, no one else's." The folded paper felt like a weight in my pocket.

Every single one of those bastards will pay for harming my Hanna, even if they only looked in her direction but didn't touch. Fuck keeping my involvement with the mafia to a minimum. It's time to show everyone just how ruthless the Volkov Bratva's second in command can be and burn my name into the city.

"You sure I can't cut them up a little? Give them a little chase? You know I won't kill them, as if Angel and Alexei would let me." Arseny somewhat knew about Hanna's jaded past because I'd asked him to help dig into her and to find anyone connected or responsible for her suffering before.

"No, they are to not be harmed, much. I want to give Hanna the option for closure through their deaths or harm by her own hands." She might not take too kindly to having her demons taken from her without an opinion in the matter.

"Good to see you didn't pull something like Kolya." Arseny chuckled, making me roll my eyes at the memory of us helping our older brother kidnap Angel's ex.

"Oh please, we all know I'm the one with the functioning brain out of the lot of us." I joked with a tense chuckle.

"Hey now, Alexei and I are up there with you, or did you forget who the doctor is? Med school is no joke." My younger brother playfully chided with a soft chuckle.

"You two are psychopaths, not smart." The twins may be the youngest, the babies of the family, but underneath their charming smiles were fucked up things.

Honestly, the twins should be the most feared out of the five of us. At least with Nikolai, Lev, and me, a person knows their outcome and path toward it; with the twins, though, they were unpredictable with their psychopathic tendencies.

"Go avenge your girl, I'll start digging," Arseny told me with a chuckle before we said our goodbyes and hung up.

Once I was settled in the guard tower and in position, I pulled up the tracking app on my tablet to get an idea of where to search for my target. It didn't take long for me to locate the pathetic man through the scope of my rifle after referencing the tablet.

Not gonna lie; it amused me a little to watch him run with nowhere to hide. The panic on his sweaty face brought a sick smile to my face because, no doubt, he realized his fate by now.

I quickly glanced at my watch and saw that thirty minutes were almost up. The seconds ticked by in my mind while my finger rested comfortably on the trigger with budding temptation with each passing second.

BANG!

One well-aimed shot and his body dropped to the ground like a sack of bricks. I barely felt the satisfied smile stretching at my lips until the buzz from pulling the trigger simmered down after I ejected the casing and pocketed it for later. Then, I couldn't help but wonder how long it'd be until the pristine desert sand would be soiled with red iron as I culled the list.

Wonder if the pristine desert sand would be soiled with red iron by the time I combed through the list.

"Leave the body for the vultures," I commanded the guards in the tower, and I told them to pass the message along before descending.

Scum like him didn't deserve to be buried or dumped anywhere. If I were more into torture, then having animals eat him alive would have appealed to me more. No matter, a headshot at a good distance gave me the same thrill.

Hanna's head popped up from the couch when I entered the area. Silently, she watched me with big, curious eyes as I approached her and sat down next to her on the couch, where she was curled up in her little blanket burrito, hugging her stuffed wolf. I almost didn't want to disturb her because she looked too cute and comfortable.

Keeping the peaceful silence between us, I reached into my pocket, pulled out the shell casing along with the bloodied rifle bullet, and held it out to her in my open palm.

Her eyes furrowed a little as she reached out and took the bullet and casing to inspect it closer. "H-he's really gone?" Her heavy eyes brightened with hope and excitement as she sat up fully.

"Being picked apart by coyotes and vultures as we speak." I nodded softly and reached out to pull her into my lap.

A soft, grateful smile graced her lips as she hugged me tightly. "Thank you." Her muffled voice cracked softly as she continued to bury her face into me.

Kissing her head, I stroked her hair in silence for a few moments. "The desert will be a boneyard by the time I'm done crossing everyone off the list he gave me." My voice was full of firm conviction.

Pulling her head back, she frowned at me. "List?" Her head tilted softly to the side as her eyebrows bunched together.

Shifting a bit in my spot, I fish out the folded paper and give it to her, watching her carefully unfold it and run her eyes over its contents. "I don't know their names… Only their horrible faces." She muttered with a sad and grim frown.

"I'll have Arseny throw something together so you can confirm the targets, then I'll carve each and every single one of their names into the bullets that I'll send through their heads." It was a promise. If her demons were too much for her to handle, then I'd deal with them—I'd be her black knight in bloodied armor.

"You don't have to, it's my problem, you shouldn't…" Seeing Hanna so broken up like this hurt me so much, but there was a sense of gratitude and happiness under it all. Hanna trusted me enough to show me this side of her, and I will never take her unconscious act for granted.

"Your problems are my problem, tigress. I will take care of it all, take the weight off your shoulders." I assured her with a kiss against her forehead.
