Page 28 of Daring to Surrender

Eagle sat a frosty cold one in front of him and he took a healthy pull. He let the frigid, oaky taste sit on his tongue before he slowly swallowed. “Yeah? What did you find?”

The car that he thought was following them that morning showed up again just as he’d pulled out of the Stardust parking lot after dropping Jane off. Coincidence? He didn’t believe in them, so he’d tagged the car and called Spidey.

“It’s a rental under the name of Sam Henson.”

“You look like you don’t believe that.”

“There are 398 Sam or Samuel Hensons that live in the United States. Of those, 27 live in the state of North Carolina. You said it was a younger-looking man. That reduced the number to 6. None of those, however, live in Pikeville or surrounding towns. The closest one lives out near the coast.”

Dozer took another drag on his beer. “You think they used a fake name?”

“That would be my guess.”

“Do you think it could be the family?” Dozer had been told the Luciano family was in town.

Spidey shrugged, his shoulders disappearing beneath his long sandy blonde hair. “Want to put a tail on them?” he asked.

He considered it. As VP of the club, he had the authority to make that decision, but he held off. “No. Not yet. Let me talk to Prez and see what he thinks. If it is the Luciano bunch stirring up stink, then they are in for the fight of their lives.”

“I heard the son is taking over,” Spidey said.

“That’s what I’ve heard too. But maybe the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. If the father is evil, the son probably is as well. We’ve hurt them once; we can do it again. Do you have any more info on the Senator?”

“We’re still on track. Waiting for one final piece of the puzzle to fall into place.”

“Good. Good.” He couldn’t wait to take down the whole human trafficking ring in the state.

“Want to play a round of cards?” Spidey asked.

Dozer turned on his stool, propping his elbows behind him on the bar as he scanned the room. Karma was shaking her tits and ass on the stage and Candy was serving a tray of beers to his brothers. His first choice would normally be Karma, but she was getting clingy. There were several other bitches around, but Candy would do. As if she felt his eyes on her, she looked up and met his gaze with a promising smile. She had a good mouth on her and could suck him deep and hard. To his surprise, the thought didn’t stir up a reaction. In fact, it did the direct opposite. He shook his head and Candy’s flirty smile fell. “Yeah, let’s play a round.”

He didn’t think too hard about the blonde color of Candy’s hair being the polar opposite of Jane’s midnight mane. And Candy’s green eyes would be looking up at him instead of the darkest blue eyes he’d ever seen. His cock jolted from the visual of Jane on her knees. He was fucked.

After his first beer was finished and he was starting on his second, Prez came in. From the rumpled state of his hair and clothing, he’d say Prez had been visiting Legs for a little afternoon delight. Good for him. At least he was getting some.

Prez waved to Eagle, and a few moments later Candy set a frosty bottle on the table and leaned over, giving them all a good view of her tits. “Can I get you gentleman anything else?”

“No, thanks. We’re good.” Prez gave her a nod, letting her know her services of any kind weren’t needed. Her smile dimmed with disappointment as she left.

Spidey’s phone rang. He checked the screen and pushed to his feet. “If you all will excuse me, I’ve got to take this.”

Prez nodded and, with his phone to his ear, Spidey went out the back door to the old loading dock behind the clubhouse.

“How’s it going, Dozer? You have anything on the books for later this week? Might have another run for you.”

Good. Work was what he needed to get out of his head. “Not with the same idiots as before.”

Austin’s gaze darkened and his jaw clenched. “No. We kicked them to the curb. We don’t put up with that fucking shit.”

“Good,” he nodded his approval before answering Prez’s question. “No. Nothing solid, but I do have a concern. It may be nothing, but then again you know about coincidences.”

“Yep. There are no coincidences,” Austin agreed.

“Right. This girl moved in next door. She’s gorgeous and nice and even funny sometimes, and she’s innocent. Like she has no street smarts. At all.”

His friend Austin looked at him over the top of his beer and smirked. “Dozer, has hell frozen over? Are you telling me you’re fallin’ in love?”

His head swiveled determinedly back and forth. “Oh, hell no. You’re totally off the mark. She’s also irritating and incompetent, and can’t drive worth a shit. She ran into my house.”
