“Shut your fucking mouth, Bishop, before I fucking shut it for you. Mac was securing both her and Ander’s cover. You were just trying to get your dick wet.” Miller has stepped closer to where Bishop is sitting.

Bishop slowly gets to his feet, not backing down in the face of Miller’s fury. “Listen, you fucking prick. Just because you get your dick sucked on a regular basis doesn’t mean the rest of us do. I haven’t been laid since we got to this miserable town, and I’ve had enough. I’m bored and tired, and I need a break. I don’t know how this team can work nonstop for so long. It’s too much. And now we’ve got this bitch saddled on us, another one whose only use is to spread her legs, and we can’t even say anything because she’s the damn director’s precious daughter.”

Everything in the room comes to a standstill in the face of all of that hostility. I slowly drag my foot out of Ryland’s hand while lowering the footrest on the recliner. I get to my feet, and his attention turns from Miller to me.

He holds his hand up in a placating gesture. “Hey, you know I’m right. You’re only useful because you’ve got a great rack and you obviously have mad blow job skills. Anders hasn’t looked so relaxed in ages.”

I look him up and down and shake my head. “Really? Is that why you were wearing my boot print on your temple for a few days?” I ask quietly, wishing I had tucked my gun into the back of my jeans before we left, but I left all of my weapons at the home. It was my mistake, thinking that I could trust this team.

“That was a lucky shot, and you know it,” he sneers, and before I can answer, Dayton does.

“No, it wasn’t. She far outclassed you during that fight. I saw all of it. So how about you sit your ass down and shut your misogynistic piece of crap mouth before I make you?”

Bishop scoffs. “This team is a joke. I see how you all fawn over her. She’s working her pussy magic on all of you, and you’re going to end up fighting over her. She will destroy this team, mark my words. I want a transfer.”

“You mean she’ll achieve what you have been trying to do all along,” Ryland comments, joining the fight now, and he is not happy. “I’d rather work with her than you any day.”

“Sit down, you faggot. Nobody asked you. You’re only on this team because your brother leads it.” Bishop doesn’t pull his punches, and I see Lathan and Miller take a step toward him, but Anders and Dayton move between them. The mild-mannered sexy nerd looks like he’s ready to rip Bishop’s head off, and forget about Miller, because if looks could kill, then Bishop would be six feet under.

Oh my god. Why didn’t Dad warn me that this team was on the verge of imploding? Or does he not know about any of this? This team should have been pulled from active duty until they had gotten their dynamics sorted out. This is a shit show, and for once in my life, I’m fucking speechless.

“No, you’re a fucking joke. You’ve been through five teams in the last year and a half. I think you need to face the fact that you’re the problem, not any of them, so do as Dayton said and sit your ass down before we all make you. I suggest you don’t open your mouth again for the rest of the meeting.” There is no disguising the violence in Max’s tone.

Bishop sits down abruptly, obeying him, and a shiver of desire runs down my spine. Fuck, that was hot. He really does have big daddy energy, both of them do. I would fan myself, but that would only add fuel to Bishop’s fire, and I won’t give him the satisfaction.

“Do you think I care what you have to say about me? Do you believe that I’m some fragile, shattered girl who’s going to give a fuck about the opinion of a dude who is so insecure he’s hitting on highschoolers? Please, bitch, you are nothing. Not only am I Phantom, with many captures and kills under my belt, but I’m fucking Princess Kensington Watson. You are nothing but a gnat on my windshield, a blip on my radar.”

His scowl drops, and his eyebrows rise as a smirk creeps across his face. “And imagine if the tabloids found out what darling Princess Kensington was really like.”

Did that fucker just threaten me? Because that’s a surefire way to end up dead.

“Hey, dude, that is not cool. You can’t go around saying shit like that.” Lathan holds up his hands, trying to be the peacekeeper. “Why don’t we all take a moment to breathe, and then we can get on with the debrief. We’ve all been working really hard, and I think maybe everyone is a little tired. Let’s just relax.”

Everyone moves back to their corners of the room, so to speak, as I lower myself back in my recliner. I don’t take my eyes off the asshole who is causing so much trouble. He doesn’t know it yet, but he basically just secured his transfer to some outpost in Siberia or his death. I guess it depends on how generous Dad is feeling when I speak to him.

Chapter 23

The tension in the room is thick, but I’ve never let that stop me before, so I just start talking. “Okay, so we’ve discussed me being wary of the Divinity of Morality Club and how lots of the key players from the original one seem to be connected, or in the very least suspicious as fuck.” I start ticking them off on my fingers.

“There are the Standishes, both sets, though I’m starting to think that maybe it’s just the men. Martha is so freaking rigid, she was in a small panic when she heard I was working at Life Lounge.”

“Wait until you meet June at church on Sunday. She’s even more uptight,” Ryland chimes in, trying to help break the tension that fills the room. I smile at him gratefully, and he pats my foot but doesn’t go back to rubbing it.

“Then we have Brock the counselor, and Matthew the bar owner, who are both skeevy and questionable as fuck. I wonder how many girls and boys have had to blow him to get jobs. Was that your first blow job?” I whip my head around to stare at Anders, who quickly puts his hands up.

“Yes, shit, I promise, and I would have refused you too, but he’s been watching me so closely I haven’t been able to snoop around. I thought that would at least get me an in with him and secure you a job.”

“Yeah, yeah, it’s fine. I’m not upset. I came into this job knowing I’d have to use my body to get it done. I hadn’t expected to blow my teammate on the first day out, but hey, at least it got rid of all that awkward tension between us,” I joke, and Anders grins at me.

“It sure did,” Bishop scoffs.

“Okay, and back to the list. I also popped into Inkubus today to check out Kevin Turner. He was in the Divinity of Morality Club too, so I wanted to put out feelers on him.”

“Uncle Kevin? You think he’s in on it?” Ryland asks, sounding surprised, and I raise an eyebrow.

“Well, don’t you? I’m assuming that’s why Dayton is working there.”

Max shakes his head. “No, actually. Dayton regularly does guest spots at Kevin’s studio when we have downtime, so his cover was actually organic. Kevin has heard the rumors but hasn’t been able to score himself an invite, despite being a member of the Raging Scorpion MC. None of the members have been invited mostly because I think they are scared of Uncle Kevin going to my dad, but he is the only tattoo studio and piercing place in town, and they do get some odd requests.”
