My phone vibrates on the coffee table, but I ignore it. It’s probably Jones wanting to know where I am, and honestly, I really don’t feel like fucking going out. I’m not even going to say anything about it to Taira when she comes over. We have a hallmark movie night planned, and if I mention the bar, she’ll be chomping at the bit to go.

I’ll let it go to voicemail and deal with it later with some lame excuse about why I couldn’t go. Maybe I’ll say I started my period and was getting bad cramps. Men seem to change the subject or flee from the room when women bring up their menstrual cycles.

I swear if it’s Lionel, I’m about to block his number. He's been calling and messaging for the last week and it’s become annoying.

The microwave dings and I pick up the dish towel, using it to take the tray out, and head to the couch. I need to start canceling all the wedding services and reservations, maybe even see if I can get refunds for some of it.

I take a bite of the delicious cheesy pasta as I power up my laptop. I pick up the fork and take another bite while I wait for it to turn on. It seems like it takes longer and longer every time. Like it’s forcing me to buy a new one. It’s only a few years old and still works just fine, it’s just slow.

Technology sucks.

There’s a knock at the door, a second before it opens, and Taira strolls in with a bag of food.

“I got burgers and hot dogs. I got the wieners for you ‘cause I know you need one.” She laughs loudly and I roll my eyes, flipping her the bird before setting the lasagna back on the table.

“What are you doing?” She sets the bag down in front of me before heading to the kitchen, returning a second later with two cans of cherry Pepsi.

“Canceling the venue and caterer, amongst other things. Hopefully, I can get my money back.” I sigh as I log into my email.

“Not the honeymoon though, ‘cause we’re going on that.” She takes a bite of her burger, larger than she probably should have because now her cheeks look like a chipmunk’s full of nuts.

“Tai, I told you Lionel was handling the honeymoon. It’s the only thing he actually paid for. Well, at least he claims he did, so who knows if that was the fucking truth or not.”

“But we’re still going on our girls’ trip, right? You still have the time off because you were supposed to be on your honeymoon?”

“Yeah, I’m still off—” Anything else I’m about to say is cut off when I see an email from Club Ecstasy. My hand trembles as my cursor hovers over it before I finally click on it.

My jaw goes slack as I read the email, confirming my acceptance and providing the next steps. There’s a number to a clinic to call and schedule an appointment for an STD and medical checkup with a code to give them. There’s a background check as well as a waiver that includes a questionnaire about my hard and soft limits. Whatever the fuck that is! Once I’ve signed and returned and completed the medical checkup, I’ll get the location and a key in the mail to bring with me.

“Alex, are you okay? You’re white as a ghost.” Taira’s voice sounds like she’s miles away. “Alex.” She shakes my arm, finally getting my attention.

“I got picked for that key party.”

“No fucking way!” She reaches across me and pulls the laptop to her lap, her eyes scanning the screen. Taira taps on the keyboard, opens up the waiver, and begins to read it, typing in information as she goes.

I’m frozen in my spot, not sure how to react. Why did they pick me? I’m a fucking virgin.

“Okay babe, I filled in all the basic stuff, address, and all that. Now we need to do the good part. What are your limits? What are you okay with doing and not doing?” she asks.

“How the fuck am I supposed to know? I’m a fucking virgin. I’ve never had sex.”

“Okay, okay. We’re going to need wine for this. Let me get us a bottle and two glasses and I’ll go through it all with you and explain anything you don’t know. Tomorrow you need to call and schedule that exam.”

I just sit there, lost in my thoughts.

Am I really going to do this?

Fuck a stranger? Lose my virginity to a man I don’t fucking know?

Taira returns to her spot beside me and hands me a glass of wine. My head is spinning so fast, I didn’t even notice her getting up.

Yeah. I see myself getting drunk tonight. Especially if I’m going to get through this.

“Okay, Alex, how do you feel about anal?”

Kill me now!
