Glancing over at the clock, it’s forty minutes before the guys should be here.

I nervously head toward it, but Taira beats me there and opens it before I can tell her to stop.

“What the hell are you doing here?!” she shouts. I can’t see who’s on the other side, but for her to react that way, it can only be one person.

Lionel.

“I need to talk to Alexis. Now get her for me.” His stern voice sends fear skittering down my spine. My stomach churns and I feel like I might get sick.

“Well, she doesn’t want to see your cheating ass. She’s moved on. Why don’t you go see your fucking two-timing whore instead? Maybe she’ll be happy to see you. Or did she dump your pitiful ass after she got what she wanted, hurting Alex?”

“Screw off. You’re inconsequential. Now stop being a bitch and get me Alexis!” I hate the way he emphasizes my legal name. There’s something off in his tone.

While I know Taira is more than capable of handling herself and she’d protect me from anything Lionel has to say in a heartbeat, I can’t let her fight my battle.

I move over to where she’s standing, placing my hand on her shoulder. She turns her head to face me, giving a small shake.

“It’s okay,” I tell her, moving her out of the way and stepping into Lionel’s view.

“It’s about time.” His breath hits me, and I can smell the alcohol on it. If that didn’t give away the fact he’s drunk, then his bloodshot eyes definitely do.

“What do you want, Lionel? I have plans and I don’t have time for this.”

“Alexis. I’m done playing games. I fucked someone else. So what? You weren’t giving it to me. But this has gone far enough. My father and grandfather were questioning why the wedding had been called off. I told them of my indiscretion, and now they don’t think I’m fit to take over the family business since I can’t even keep my bitch of a fiancé under control.”

“Well then. I guess It’s a good thing I’m no longer that. What part of we’re done do you not understand, Lionel? Stop coming by my apartment. I don’t want to see you or talk to you. I blocked your number for a reason.”

He snatches my arm, yanking me toward him. I grip the door to keep him from pulling me out of the apartment. For someone who claims they never work out, he’s surprisingly strong. Thankfully, I’m able to hold myself firmly in place.

“Leave her the fuck alone!” Taira yells from behind me as she takes hold of his wrist, trying to pry his fingers from me.

“Fuck off, bitch. Our issues have nothing to do with you,” he lashes out at her as spittle flies everywhere, his tone venomous.

“Leave her alone, Lionel. Taira, please, I’ve got this. I don’t want him to hurt you.”

“Like he could, the sniveling rat. From what I can see, he’s just a pussy who likes to control women. Too bad he just so happens to have two in front of him that he can’t. Now let her go Lionel or I’ll call the cops.”

“Bitch, I said to fuck off. Now come on Alexis, we need to talk about our wedding.”

“Well, from what we heard, Alex called off the wedding, and seeing how she’s dating us now, I don’t see her marrying you. So get your hands off our woman.” My eyes shoot up, and I sigh in relief when I see Donovon and Dimitri behind Lionel. Dimitri’s words have Lionel releasing my arm and turning to face them.

“And who the fuck are you?” Lionel puffs his chest out, trying to appear more intimidating than he is.

“Well, shit for brains, like my good mate here said, we’re her boyfriends and I think it’s time you leave.” Donovan steps closer to him, towering over Lionel like a skyscraper.

“Or don’t leave and let me kick your ass,” Dimitri adds, cracking his knuckles.

I really don’t want a fight to break out. Not here for all my neighbors to see. But I love how much they want to protect me. It’s comforting.

Lionel looks back over his shoulder at me, not turning his back to them. “So, is this what you’ve become, Alexis? A willing slut to two wanna-be gangsters?”

“You’re one to talk, Lionel. If memory serves me correctly, you cheated. I’ve moved on, and maybe you should as well.”

“Cops are on the way. Looks like little Lionel needs to decide if he wants to go to jail or leave. My vote is jail,” Taira sing-songs from behind me as she waves her phone in the air for him to see.

“This isn’t over, Alexis. I’ve rescheduled our wedding for one month from today. Be ready, and I’ll be back to discuss the plans.” He steps past Donovan, knocking his chest against his as he goes.

“Is that asshole for real?” Dimitri asks, as he steps up to me and wraps me in his arms. I come up on my toes and accept the comfort willingly. My eyes land on Donovan behind him, who’s watching Lionel like a hawk as he leaves.
